They might eventually pay for the loan. This long term project and railways make "profit" by saving roads, reducing accidents, faster logistics, improving tourisms, zero congestion in ports.

Nobody has gone to a road and says this road is making profit or not - unless its a toll road. These are public good projects. Tax payers will happily foot the bill because of it's multiplier effect.

This year it will be about 40M.
SGR carries those mostly destined to Nairobi - now they do 5M.
In Mombasa - 35M - maybe 1/3 is destined to Nairobi - 1/3 destined to other kenya cities - 1/3 destined to Uganda and other countries.
Once SGR is built all the way to Kampala and beyond - it will carry more.

In fact when the SGR was being built - the kenya cargo was 17-20M. They had project in 20yrs - it will rise to 35M - and SGR would carry about 20m - the rest left for tracks. We are there in less than a decade.

But why did u build that Sgr? You have no goods to need a big railway like that especially in a short distance of mombasa Nairobi.And worse of it,you were overcharged.If it was Tanzania, we could have spent a third of your costs to build it.Even our own engineers can build that type of railway.
