You open dams when the water level rises and normally that happens during raining season |

Moh247:Isnt that going to raise the water level higher and cause some catastrophy? Abi is there a bigger price to pay if u open it when the water level is low? Just curious though |

Michelle70:To better understand the concept you need a map Most water coming into the dam are from upland around Cameroon, flowing through river Benue and finally discharging it's contents into Gulf of Benin and the ocean through NigerDelta Water gets released from the dams slowly all year round, but when it's raining season with much more water and much more pressure they have to release more volume of water in other to forestall dam collapse like what happened few months back in South Africa |

Building additional canals to support the existing water ways should solve this flooding from future occurrence. But where the problem lies is they can be turned into dumping grounds by Nigerian to get rid of their wastes, because they will definitely be dry most of the time except in cases where the dam overflows |
