The Ind... Defence Industry has really gone far and is matured enough to make a name for itself in the market, I wonder why they hardly receive orders for prominent defence assets. If South Africa can export it's Casper MRAPs, Seeker UAVs, Umkhonto SAMs and other defence equipments with a young defence industry then they with a solidified local defence industry should be exporting the likes of HAL Dhruv, HAL Rudra, Arjun MBT, Kalyani MRAP, Saryu OPVs, Car Nicoba patrol vessels just to mention a few.

DRDO AD-1 Interceptor successfully test fired today

It is part of DRDO BMD phase 2

AD-1 is a Endo-Atmospheric - Low Exo-Atmospheric BMD (Ballistic Missile Defence) Interceptor

That is it can not only intercept targets within the atmosphere (Endo-Atmospheric), it can also intercept targets at near space (low Exo-Atmospheric)

Govt run defence industries are never competitive unless the govt is pro active , which current govt is and hence increase in exports

Also role of military is important, I don't want to comment on that but you should guess what I think of them

Previously most defence exports were at component level hence not much publicity

Eg MKU was and is a big supplier to NATO

SA MIC was / is at a different level , they have a strong ecosystem , ind.... MIC not even in the picture bec of internal and external sabotage, usual fukery etc etc, since few years there is some improvements due to govt policies of encouraging pvt sector and startups in defence

Trying to export big ticket items is a bit difficult unless own Govt backs it and pulls strings etc etc , nothing is that simple

Exports are expected to grow and they are growing
