It Is Only In Nigeria That People Are Praised For Dodging Presidential Debate by gidgiddy(op):
In most democracies of the word, when the top political position is being contested, the aspirants are invited to a debate where questions are put to them, their answers are scrutinised by the general public as well as others aspirants, and any inconsistency is debated.

The reason why this is important is that it gives the general public a rare opportunity to compare and judge the aspirants as they stand shoulder to shoulder, and take on one another in debate. Refusal to attend debates is seen as a sign of being unprepared, insolent, diversionary, secretive and even condescending

But in Nigeria, reverse seems to be the case. Supporters of those who did not show up for debate are the first to criticise those did

Not only do these people praise their candidates for running away and dodging debates, they actually think those who went for debate are fools

I can understand that a Presidential candidate may not be in a position to attend a debate. What I dont understand is when a Presidential candidate can actually attend a debate, chooses not to, or sends a representative or his running mate to an event meant for those seeking to be President.
