Here is typical Africa force - Uganda UPDF - planning to join Kenyans in DRC - you can see from their wear just how badly prepared for war. This why Africa have long way to go - Nigeria, Ethiopia and name them - maintain such large poorly paid poorly armed armies.

UPDF troops in final touches to deploy in the DRC under the East African Community Regional Force. The force is currently undergoing final mentoring before they are inserted into Eastern DRC to join their Kenyan counterparts already in Goma.

Re: Kenyans Are Far Behind Nigerians In Every Aspect – Fani-Kayode by rvp20182: 10:01am On Nov 18, 2022
The contrast is very clear - Uganda with 1/3 kenya budget have 100,000 plus troops poorly paid, poorly equipped, without any welfare or life insurance - while kenya maintained a modern well disciplined and professional army - where all officers must attain military science degree - where promotion is per merit.

Some of the african troops are paid in beans and maize ration. Majority end up overthrowing civilian gov

You can bet KDF soldier on average earn 5-10 times Ugandan of similar rank.

Kenya become only SSA country outside South Africa to manufacture steel billets from iron ore as Ruto launch Devki Steel near Mombasa. The factory has been connected to Kenya Railways MGR network for last mile delivery of steel billets to steel factories.

The Iron ore processing, manufacturing and transportation of steel billets at Devki Steel Mills in Kwale County will contribute greatly to development and is major step in heavy manufacturing.

Kenya's iron and steel importation bill was 120 billion shillings last year - a billion dollars.

Madman grin grin grin grin grin grin, all over Nigeria, steel billets are produced by businesses that have been doing so ever since Kenya was founded. By the way, imported steel products are currently illegal in Nigeria.
If you just Google " Steel billets production in Nigeria ," you should be able to find the solutions you need.

Zoogerian understand subject matter first.

https://www.vanguardngr.com/2020/08/nigeria-spends-3-3bn-importing-metals-annually-adegbite/

The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Arc Olamilekan Adegbite, Monday, disclosed that Nigeria spends $3.3 billion importing metals annually.

Adegbite who represented by his Senior Special Assistant (Technical), Olu Adedayo, made this known during the official handing over ceremony of the steel plant assets owned by Standard Metallurgical Company, SMC, Sagamu, Ogun State, to KAM Steel Integrated Company, a subsidiary of KAM Holding which acquired it at N60 billion.

According to him, Nigeria has over 30 steel manufacturers with a production capacity of 2.2 million tonnes per annum, which they source and us basically scraps and billets mainly imported from China.

He said:“Nigeria has over 30 steel manufacturers but can only produce 2.2 million tonnes per annum using scraps and billets imported mainly from China.

The new $1.5bn Kaduna steel plant ( 90% completed ) .
The largest steel plant in Africa and first liquid steel plant in Africa will soon be completed
1.5 million metric tonnes of steel annually from the abundant supply of iron ore; not too far off. Over 3,000 would be employed at the mines and factory
Old video of the plant

Now you're about to understand.
Billets are mostly imported from China, India and even South Africa.
Though most prefer to smelt scrap metal.
Production of billets from iron ore - has not happened in Nigeria - that is why 3.3B dollars is used to import them - 1 billion in kenya
The Ajakeuota steel mill was suppose to do that - it rusted to the ground.

It's phoney - Alok Gupta of African Industry Group talked about 600M investment.

“If that is the case, how is $1.5bn related to the original figure of investment estimate of $600m published in January of the same year. Who is fooling who? Let the Federal government embark on due diligence and work with the Kaduna State government in getting the correct data of work-plans of African Industries Group in order not to be misled or misguided in its action plans and policies.”

Nigeria has 360,000 military with almost same budget as kenya - with 25,000 troops - and you can see why KDF is more effective - welfare (paid 3-5 times Nigeria, all have life insurance of upto 100,000usd if they die, and are equiped with latest equipments).

KDF troops in DRC enforcing law and order
Nigeria has a cumulative budget bigger than all subsahara African country and 3rd biggest in Africa, just behind Egypt and Algeria. At $5billion while Kenya is just $1.8billion.

I see you've done a big raise ->Nigeria raised its military spending by 56 per cent in 2021, to reach $4.5 billion. I hope you financed it.

Previously -> According to the World Bank, in 2016, Nigeria approved a defence budget of $1.72 billion. The budget for the following year was $1.62 billion ...

Which compare to kenya for 1.2B.

That is some progress. You need to spend at least 15B dollars to match kenya. Frankly how do you manage to pay salaries for 360K soldiers with such budget. Kenya has 25K force on 1.2B dollars. That mean Nigeria need 15B dollars to match the spend per soldier.

You should compare yourself first with Boko haram and such folks who have displaced million of Nigeria.
Millions of Nigeria being fed and housed by UN.
There is no kenya in IDP camp because of insecurity.

KDF is helping restore peace worldwide - just now fixing DRC after stabilzing Somalia and participated in UN peace keeping more than any africa country

Facts speak for themselves.
Get me breakdown of your military spending. Compare it with Kenya. Compare the number of forces.
Heck fore you jack the spending in 2021....you were at some point at 1.5B dollars..compared to kenya 1.2B.
And you'll understand why Boko Haram has send at least 8 million of Nigeria - that size of many countries - to IDP camps to be fed by the UN.

This my friends is very shameful. You should be spending at least 2 percent of your GDP on military.

Nigeria Military Spending/Defense Budget - Historical Data
Year Billions of US $ % of GDP
2020 $2.57B 0.63%
2019 $1.86B 0.46%
2018 $2.04B 0.51%

2016 $1.72B 0.43%

Kenya has for a long time been just doing peace keeping and Nairobi has been center where rebels meet to resolve their problems - but now increasingly KDF are now ENFORCING peace.

Maj Gen Nyaga led Somali peace enforcement and now is in DRC. The people of DRC - another zoo like Nigeria - couldnt be happier.

Meanwhile Ethiopia who has military pact with kenya - have trusted Nairobi to be referee in their dispute - while DRC has also accepted Nairobi to resolve their issues - just like Somalia.

South Sudan were so grateful - they used Kenya flag as their country flag when they got independence

Outcome -> Lean, professional, well trained, well armed force of just 25,000 troops. To hear that KDF soldier has beaten someone or engage in bar brawl smiley - that is very rare - something very common in Nigeria. KDF are professional well paid soldiers.

And these dont just happen. The hero of kenya military reforms is one Gen David Tonje. This man who sits as colossus of military reform in kenya that ushered in one of arguably africa well trained, well educated, well motivated, well paid and professional armed force.

Tonje Rules remain to this date the rules of kenya military - and he remains the most consequential head of kenya defence forces. - now retired and farming.

Amongst Tonje rules demand that if you dont rise in a rank in 4yrs - you go home - 8yrs for lower ranks. You are forced out. You can only rise through MERIT. If you hit 55yrs - you go home. You cannot be appointed Maj without a military science degree of four years. Most soldiers retire after 15yrs and get paid their pension and allowance...if they cant hack it. Military is not place for jokes. 4yrs no promotion - you have to resign.

DAUDI TONJE WHO INTRODUCED 'SOLID' REFORMS IN KDF.

General Daudi Tonje is one of the most straight forward, wise and focused soldiers, Kenya has ever had since its independence.

At that time of his appointment, General Tonje was met with the usual Kenyan whispers. After all, he was a Tugen, just like retired president Moi.

He had been promoted four times to become General in just under three years.

General Tonje would later prove sceptics wrong and earn himself a spot in Kenya's history books as the most progressive military head ever, in history of the nation, as he introduced a number of reforms which gave a 'breath' to the Kenya Defense Forces.

SOME OF THE TONJE REFORMS INCLUDED:

1. Ensuring that promotions in the military were based on academic performance.

2. Disbandment of the women corps, paving the way for women to be included in the mainstream army.

3. Repealing a rule that banned women from leading commands in units where men were based and also allowing army women to marry, trashing the notion that women couldn't balance work and family.

4. Lobbying for the creation of the Defense Staff College and the Defense Forces Medical Insurance Scheme.

5. Introducing service rotation in the chief of general of defense office among the three services.

As a result of Tonje's rotational pattern, Moi picked his successor Gen Joseph Kibwana from the Kenya Navy who was succeeded by Gen Jeremiah Kianga from Kenya Army and later, Gen Karangi from the Airforce.

6. Cutting off political influences in the running of the military, military procurement and professionalizing the force in the process.

7 Introducing payment of soldiers through bank accounts, ending the queuing model of salaries.

At one time, President Moi had to step in to stop more of Tonje's reforms that he saw as too radical.

Gen Tonje also institutionalized the retirement age at 62 years and introduced four-year term limits for service commanders.

True to his word, he even declined an offer by President Moi to extend his term as Kenya's defense forces head, resolving for retirement in the year 2000 as per the laws he constituted.
