Hello Nairalanders. I need your opinion.

My uncle is a medical director at a big hospital here in Nigeria. He relocated back to Nigeria about 8 years ago after practicing as a medical doctor in the US for over 20 years.

He discusses issues with me from time to time. This morning I was in his house and he was asking me to advice on which car to buy for himself for his 60th birthday.

He asked which car should he buy between 2022 Lexus LX600 and 2021 Mercedes Benz G63 AMG.

He said the G63 could have been an easy choice but he is concerned that Mercedes Benz might redesign or face-lift the G class by next year when they release the electric G class. He doesn't want to spend N200m to buy a car that becomes old model in one year.

The LX600 on the other hand is Lexus flagship model and new design.

He also talked about the new Range Rover but he said Range Rovers are not as reliable as Mercedes and Lexus which is a fact.

Abeg help me choose because I was confused and didn't know how to advise him.

Advice your uncle to keep a low profile and avoid cruising around in any of those mentioned cars, or any very expensive vehicle at that, unless he has multiple armed security personnel who can guard him 24/7..Even at that sef, his security isn't still guaranteed...Many VIPs have been killed or abducted in Nigeria despite having armed security with them.

Too many criminal elements abound in the country now, looking to make a fast buck by kidnapping or/and robbery...no need drawing unnecessary attention to oneself by going around in these flashy vehicles....

In fact I won't be shocked if some of these criminal elements are on this forum shopping around for lucrative targets to rob or kidnap.

Yes, I know that in 1st world countries, the vehicles you mentioned are not really ostentatious vehicles.. But in Nigeria where area boys fit begin reason your matter just because you buy Toks 2010 Highlander, advice your uncle to pipe low and enjoy his life quietly.

Advise him to go for the Lexus. That's the best option among the three. Lexus like Toyota has good second hand value.
Another newer model will still look similar in shape to this current model, which will be easy to facelift.

If G Wagon will start producing electric cars, no need to buy it. Maintenance and charging will be a problem since electric cars are not common in Nigeria.

I don't know much about Range Rover and second hand value

I swear I will never buy a 2022 benz G63 or 2022 Lexus LX600 because of the insecurity in this country even if I had $10bn in my account.

Abeg, even though 60yrs is a milestone age, advise your Wealthy Uncle against buying any of these cars.

Better to be wise than lose his life.

G63 instead because
1. Its reliable and luxurious

2. It blends in because it is so common on road

3. You can definitely upgrade body kits to new model because the design is one of the factors in its sales so benz won't change much form .

4. More valuable than the lexus in years to come, G wagon holds its own.

Range Rover is a money pit nah, only reliable when new and under warranty. G wagon is better

He is not a young man my brother. He has paid his dues. I can count 20 relatives he sponsored through school. I was happy he choose to pamper himself

Let him just pick the Gwagon,its more modest on the road(does not really show color)yet very luxurious. I pick it because of the state of the Nation,security wise.

The Lexus is also a dope ride,but its too flashy and executive(because of polithievicians using it often) easy target for the underworld men.

This life, somebody's problem is just 2k to feed his family while another mans problem is how to spend 200 million on crazy things wisely, both of them will still go to God for their problems. May God give me this type of crazy problem in Jesus name. Amen.

If my uncle was in the UK, I think the range of cars he would choose from will be more. I would have even suggested the Bentley Bentayga if he was in the UK.

We are in Nigeria so we have to choose based on this

Better road handling, comfort and luxury. When you see a car gliding over pot holes, you will know that it's a Range Rover. With the in control app, you can do a lot of things with your Range Rover. No comparison with any other.

When you hear RUN. Its for RangeRovers and BMWs. it means RUN for your dear life and money. The same people telling you to buy are the same people positioned to dig holes in your pocket. Hand no dey comot for Rangerover Body, plenty of return jobs here and there by all these specialist. Visit there workshop you will see plenty abandoned RANGEROVERS they cant fix. some of them are even on the run from the owners because of gross incompetence. Then there will come a day when a Toyota corolla will over take you when the road is free and you wont be able to so anything because your RANGEROVER will fail to outspeed the corolla. please go for Lexus if not Benz..

A 60 years old man will not like to cruise in a Corolla, he will fall sick. You are not going to saddle him with 13 and 22 pin madness. The last time I saw a good car made by Toyota is the Supra and Toyota will never bring it to Nigeria. They are bringing sub standard models for guys who don’t know Quality. As big as Mercedes is, I asked them at the 1998 Geneva motor show why will they present the Maybach and the S class to the motoring public at the same time and I added that it will not be successful and till date, both models are competing with each other. The G 65 is already in the market and it is for those who loves the noise. Ford Cosworth and VW Coraddo were both banned in Europe because of the noise pollution in the 90s. I have driven both cars and so that roar from the Gwagon is not different from those cars and also not different from the Audi S4 that I drive sometimes here in Lagos. But if you have not driven a Rangerover, please do before the trumpet will sound. All cars go bad after sometime. So it’s not just Rangerovers but other cars too. We can place a bet on Saturday morning and count all the Range rovers on the lekki epe road and Lexus and G wagon combined together.

how can one actually go wrong with a lexus??

The Lexus for me. A 60 year old man could definitely use the soft and plush luxury of the Lexus. Also it just got facelifted so should be like another 4 or 5 years before another facelift.
The G wagon is luxurious too but harsher plus also consider all that G63 power for a 60 year old man. Duno i just feel he's past all those raw masculine power but rather just enjoy a soft and plush life befitting his status and leave the G wag for the kids.

Don't mind that buygala fellow, with his pessimistic bullshit. Let him kuku use leg and relocate to a hut because the country no good.

He finally went for the Lexus. Driving the Lexus feels like sitting piloting an airplane. It's so roomy, huge. I have driven it twice for him.
