rvp20182:I shouldn't be responding but there is a difference between multidimensional poverty and poverty matrix used mostly all over the world. The common poverty matrix used, measures poverty at below 1 dollar a day but this doesn't do us justice anymore because of the purchasing power parity especially if you want to consider the black market. 1 dollar is 761 naira at the black market. 761 naira a day in Kebbi state (inspite of inflation) can still do a lot for the market woman and rural farmer there, and these are also the set of people with the highest population in Nigeria. Even in Lagos (Nigeria's most expensive city, 761 naira would still get you a local meal but this is impossible in the U.S and most of Europe). Hence measuring poverty by the American dollar doesn't help us measure poverty properly. With multidimensional poverty, you measure several factors such as access to electricity or maybe internet, education, adequate water supply etc. They could be just content in their own way but lack access to some basic amenities like primary education or good water supply. This is why the majority in this data are said to be children. The data taken was based on a broad sample of about 60,000 persons. It was estimated that 27 million out of the 133 million are in urban areas while 106 million are in rural areas. It's an ongoing process, the more data the Nigerian NBS has, the more the data is updated from time to time but the NBS has abandoned the old and usual way of measuring poverty. |

Agreed - it's multidimensional - but even if income is used alone - I bet they are more poor people in Buhari regime than before. Kenya isnt doing any better - but at least it's better than Nigeria. "The new index shows 23.4 million Kenyans are multidimensionally poor, compared to 15.9 million if one were looking at income only. The index is contained in the new Comprehensive Poverty Report, produced by KNBS, Unicef and UN Women" The point is all the rice revolution and Dangote import substitution are not making a dent on poverty. They are making the billioniares richer...and we have to be careful with repeating FAILED IMPORT SUBSTITUTION policies. Protect infant industries as you make them competitive...not blanket protection of billionaire investors & businessmen....while people are buying cheap rice they can get for 10,000 naira for 42,000 naira. How many Nigerians would escape out of poverty if imported rice was retailing at 10,000 Naira? GeneralDae: |

rvp20182:You keep crying about rice. Kenyans and hunger! I wonder why the rice revolution in Nigeria is Killing you. We could no longer continue to be a heavy importer of a commodity we could produce locally thereby piling more pressure on the naira. With time the price would come down. But we got to start somewhere. Now investments in rice Mills are all over the place. Those who used to import rice into Nigeria are going into processing now thereby creating jobs. Think of the multiplier effects. On multidimensional poverty, if after all the lies and cooking of data Kenya still has about half its population poor, then the true numbers must be very staggering. No one takes data from Kenya seriously, a country where common people can no longer afford rice.

rvp20182:Prices will drop with time. We can't continue providing jobs for Taiwanese farmers while our own farmers go hungry, like Kenyan farmers going hungry while the country imports things they can produce like rice and corn. |
