I rather vaxx answer. Boarding schools are all over the world as exception to the rule. They are for special purposes. Probably 1 in 1,000 schools.
What about the large 'school economy ' that the boarding school system creates where there's a large market of/for consumers/producers of school furniture, books, teachers, administrators, cloth sellers, food sellers, carpenters, etc etc?

I've been saying Ghana should even increase her boarding schools to take maximum 3000 students. Day schools should do 1,500. We should build storey buildings/high rises to accomodate the extra numbers

Anywhere schools especially boarding schools are established, the local economies of these places also flourish. Add to that the extras of academic excellence, discipline, no to and fro transport costs etc and you'd see boarding has lots of pluses

And why are you in this thread if HDI is the measure - your lost before we began.
If Hdi was the measure then you don't stand a chance against Ghana. Such a wide gulf. But no, Hdi is hardly the measure as we have often told you silly tits.

Of course, the boarding system has a lot of advantages and multiplier effects, not to mention the building of character in the students. There was a time up to the early 80s when all elite secondary schools in Nigeria were fully boarding.

Actually, you dont quite get it.
White old women from Europe come and get Kenyan men.
These are normally well chiseled beach boys roaming tourist areas looking for old sex starved white women.
Kenyan man agrees with wife to take time off from home and become male escort;
If love affair blossom; they can even go back to Europe with old white woman;
Eventually after stealing enough from the pensioner, kenyan man come back to his kenyan woman.

For married woman - which tourist would want them - with fallen warriors ?

The white men come for young call girls - and some are peopdhiles. The problem for women - is child prostitution.

Sex slavery is a Nigerian/West African thing. It's alien in Kenya.
And you are not ashamed to be writing this about Kenyan men and women. Everybody knows little Indians are the real sex slaves of Africa since the time the Chinese and the Omanis found their way to the East African coast. The Chinese even left their bastards behind in the 17th century. grin

Like you can't say Kenya is good in rugby while referring to 7s rugby. 15s rugby is real professional rugby

Again referencing to that, Kenya has never finished ever was third and that was due to many countries participating due to covid Argentina, Australia, Fiji, France, Japan, New Zealand, Samoa,
England, Scotland and Wales did not take part, being represented instead by Great Britain.

On 7s its just like Uganda its neibour
Where are the black people in your Rugby teams? Remove the shackles of apartheid first then come talk to us about your shacks.

Even all the 80 day senior high school are being converted into boarding schools to make it possible for students and teachers to stay on campus

So is the boarding system still dominant/popular in Nigeria? I hear you people combine your junior and senior secondary schools all in one location. The secondary school system especially the boarding school thing is VERY strong here in Ghana. A certain youtuber compared between Ghana and Nigeria and said for Ghanaians, the senior secondary schools one attended is highly regarded, whilst for Nigeria it's the university one attended that's highly regarded

It's the way to go. Lots of advantages in having the boarding system. Ghana if we'd be serious, do school farms to feed the students, harvest their toilets for biogas to cook their meals, electricity, procure school cloth/materials locally, feed the students with local produce etc etc imagine the contribution the 'school economy' would add to our economy?

Most of the schools are already producing biogas from the human waste that is produced... Currently, no secondary school has less than 2,000 students on campus. That's a lot of human waste.
These schools used to procure their various uniforms and house wears locally, I have no idea when some of them started procuring from China (they need to be reigned back into local procurement)
They've been feeding them local rice for sometime now ( thank goodness from next year they'll have no option than to procure every food stuff locally).

That is a huge boost to the economy.

You must be a Ghanian smiley to be able to reason (or not) like this. You guys are arguably the daftest folks.
You can have 3,000 boarding with 200 teachers or 20-day schools in each village with 150-200 kids; 10 teachers.
Which one is better?
You will be "developing" areas with large boarding schools while leaving the rest to become desolate villages.
Gov should focus on standard school package for every village; that should equalize education.
Every village will therefore have electricity, water, name it;
Schools should have lunch program - and that is it.
Even Colleges - TIVET - should be established in walking distance or at least 10kms radius from every village.
Universities should be within say 20kms distance from every village.
Boarding schools, hostels in universities, or college should be an exception.
It cheaper for everyone, spread development and really education like any gov services should be available anywhere and everywhere.

There are things that need to be consolidated in one area - like factories - your 1D 1 F is totally crazy. You want to have factories in one area to benefit from economies of location. So factories are best located in one special economic zone or industrial zone.

There are things that need to be dispersed - these are gov and social services - to at best walking distance from everyone. This a right to everyone. Every Ghanian deserve quality education right in their village.

Otherwise you will create a society where rich kids go to boarding or university or college - but poor kid in the village - cannot - because it expensive for them.

Heck reading from Ghanians here - you have already replicated the British class system - where kids who went to XYZ fancy high school - are more special than others - while in rest of world - 90% of people go to local schools, local college, local university - because they are of the same standards - with what obtains elsewhere - except 10% who need something really special or better.

The boarding school system has waned seriously in Nigeria. Most people see it as an anomaly these days. Some old public schools still take it seriously though. And many big private schools still run the system albeit very expensive.

The secondary school one attended is still very important to most of us if its a famous public school. The old boy system of public schools are still far more effective and interesting than the university old student thing.

Sucking up to what Ghanaians? Have you forgotten how you and your brothers accepted on the other thread that Ghana was better than Kenya in a bid to keep the Ghanaians on your side? I still don't know at what point the Ghanaians turned against you and started hitting you mercilessly.

Your level in what exactly? Is it your poor grasp of literacy or your poor knowledge of numbers? It's as clear as crystal you are not brilliant.
Re: Kenyans Are Far Behind Nigerians In Every Aspect – Fani-Kayode by rvp2018: 9:34pm On Nov 27, 2022
Sign of under-development. Unless you went to IVY league or Eaton type privellege schools - going to secondary school should not be something to be proud of.

This shows access to quality education is still a privilege - not a right. In progressive countries - everyone went to the school next door - which has the same education standard - as any in the country - they get the same budgetary allocation - same quality of teachers - and pass rate is the same.

We are objective. We were not sucking up. We had not see Ghana for what it is. When Kazi Kazi threw the picture challenges. I was the first one to say something is wrong.

Most kenyans including myself use to think highly of Nigeria. Heck I was even proud of Nigeria as progressive black country . I remember in 2010 or around when it took South Africa as largest economy. In my mind Nigeria was this oil giant - and I use to glean through their movies - and I saw the bad roads, villages and good houses - didnt really think much about Nigeria. I didnt even know they didnt have electricity.

Until I stumbled upon a thread written " Nairobi City". I think Gallivant use to keep it alive. And I was suprised by how suprised Nigerians were of Nairobi. If I recall - I had also read about some Nigerian senators or mps who came to Nairobi - and were suprised about how organized and clean it was.

Now when I read through that thread - I discovered the ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Nothing works. Electricity. Water. Sewage. Garbage. Cities look crap. This was mostly Nigerians who had been to Kenya or Nairobi talking down fellow Nigerians.

A little Indian like you will never understand these things. I was talking to a Ghanaian who is a fellow West African and undoubtedly understands.

The first secondary School in Nigeria was established in 1859, the oldest in Kenya came about half a century later. So, I can't discuss such lofty things with you.

We have the same thing in Kenya. This is nothing West Africa. This is British System. In kenya we are moving away from it. Nigeria you naturally moved away from it because everything basically broke down - and everyone had to stay in their village.

You cannot run boarding school with you level of incompetence.

In Kenya - folks who went to say Alliance High school or Starehe boys - or the 1,000 national school feel great pride -

It's nothing to be proud of - it shows access to quality secondary education is a privellege.
