Aliou Cisse And The Teranga Lions: A Show Of Bravery by LasisiAyodeji(op): 11:22am On Dec 05, 2022
Being the champions of Africa, expectations were high on Senegal before the commencement of the Word Cup in Qatar. Although, many were not expecting them to go beyond at least between the Quarter and Semi finals being that in editions past, various African teams have shown exceptional footballing talents void of tactical discipline which, has been the leverage point of Europe and South American teams over the years.

More discouraging for the west African side is that key man, Sadio Manè, got withdrawn from the tournament with some days left as he is being seen as the team's leading light. As expected, the team quickly moved on as some players summoned the courage to build a higher level of morale in their country men.

Senegal, through the show of tenacity, made it beyond the group phase and this brought succour to a large crowd of many who had a high tension of doubts in the team's capacity void of the Sadio Manè leadership experience. The team was consequently, drawn to play against England in the first phase of the knockout round.

Going by the proximity in quality, the Africans weren't given much chances of advancing past the Three Lions expect the unbelievable had to happen which meant that there has to be a proper show of tactical discipline from the Africans.

As the game commenced, the Senegalese played with caution but, could not hold up for too long as the English men found a breakthrough via Jordan Henderson and shortly after, Harry Kane.

As expected, a two goal lead going into the half time, was enough to see the Europeans through as the Senegalese had effortlessly, given up even before the start of the second half. Hence, Arsenal's Bukayo Saka added more salt to injury as the game was done and dusted with a 3-0 goal margin.

The take home lesson for Senegal and the rest of Africa is that, again, there's been a proper show of will power to upset the odds despite an array of challenges but, Africa sides will continue to look unserious and will probably never make it to the Semi final and or even stand a chance of the highly converted price in the event that African sides do not exhibit proficiency in the act and or art of tactical discipline.

Senegal have clearly shown they were not fully prepared. Yes, they would be stronger if Bayern Munich's former Liverpool star Sadio Mane had been fit to play in Qatar, and Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye's suspension for this game is a blow to them, but they have got players who could have stepped up.

Look down the spine of their team, starting with Eduoard Mendy in goal and his Chelsea team-mate Kalidou Koulibaly at the heart of their defence, and they have got quality and experience but they lack team ethic which is the superpower of South American and European teams.

To win things, you need that team ethic - you have to become an organised side that is less reliant on one superstar and more reliant on the group.

Africa still have a long way to go in football if we are to join the elite teams.

No show of bravery! Just lack of experience and coordination plus a very useless goal keeper. Senegal was in control of the game for the first 30mins but lost coordination after the first goal. England played Senegal with experience.. I saw the way their team were focused and coordinated. The only handicap Senegal had was the absence of Mane.
Re: Aliou Cisse And The Teranga Lions: A Show Of Bravery by chrisxxx(m): 12:15pm On Dec 05, 2022
I watched the game and realized how England tricked Senegal. Initially Senegal was playing with fear, caution, discipline and reservation. England understood this and tactically passed possession to Senegal thereby giving them a false sense of possession of the game. This caused Senegal to throw the caution they had had in their closet all this while to the wind. Defenders joined attack and thereby keeping a high line behind.
This is where there problem started with counter attack by the English team which they had relied on.

Bravery in defeat. You all.need to take sentiments off football. grin grin
Cisse should have known WC is not AFCON. See the way Foden and Saka turn their defense to shambles. Well I am glad Nigeria did not go to WC. It would have been embarassing.

Abeg them no try.

Champions of Africa no fit reach Semi Final for World. Them struggle to qualify, Dem still collect 3 - 0.

They need to reduce the slot of Africa to 2.

The world cup is the most predictable tournament especially for Round of 16. I have predicted 4/8 so far and Portugal,Spain , Brazil and Japan or Coritia will progress.

Mende or whatever he is called, that their goalkeeper caused it all for them. Chelsea must do away with that guy, if not he's gonna cost them much.

What nonsense bravery after shopping 3 nill. Why not score at least one goal. It is that bravery that we Africans lack at the world stage. We have all it takes in terms of talent and skills but that bravery and politics are not there.

Saka scored for England, I can tell you authoritatively that he won't score for Senegal had he be in Senegal team, because we lack that bravery you claimed Senegal had
Re: Aliou Cisse And The Teranga Lions: A Show Of Bravery by Nobody: 12:27pm On Dec 05, 2022
Show of which bravery?

The Teranga Lions were dominated by the three lions...badly.

England was moving into Senegal's half at will, Saka was basically operating with freedom atimes in the 18yd box, and the second goal was as a result of poor positioning of players...

Honestly, I expected better.
Re: Aliou Cisse And The Teranga Lions: A Show Of Bravery by Danisaint112(m): 12:28pm On Dec 05, 2022
Senegal tried abeg. Even though they didn't get to the Qatar go also they represented Africa well compared to Nigeria that ate 4 Goals to Portugal.

The cause of their downfall was the loss or moral. I believe if Sadio Mane was there he would have made a huge difference.

Dude knows how to get into his opposition defense almost unnoticed. This is one reason Liverpool hasn't been playing that well recently. Sadio Mane's Senegal repented us well.

Now that Senegal is out. I'm not rooting for Morocco or Argentina to carry the cup.
