what do you think?I think govt want to have the foreknowledge of the transaction going on so that they can apply taxes . Digitizing the economy . The first time , Ghana digitized her football ticket, she made four fold of the money she would have recorded on a manual ticketing.

But how will they expect a normedic cattlemen to come formalized their trade, for example, . This guy's walk with all sort of currency , dollars , CFA , naira and cedis in just their crossing bag . They buy and sell cows along the bush part , that is how they live from walking from northern Nigeria to northern Ghana . Or even more kilometers .
Exactly the group the CBN is after. They would adopt Enaira and other simple fintech platforms. The CBN is modifying the enaira everyday making it suitable to use for even these guys.
Also much of the banditry and insecurity in those borders with Niger and Chad can be attributed to this large informal trade you speak of. They say follow the money and you would follow the crime.

Kenya trailblazed with M-pesa - and related products. Ghana has done well to follow the path. Nigeria continue to mess around by not allowing telcoms who have far wider coverage than useless Nigeria Banks to lead in mobile money.

Nonsense. Just allow MTN and other telcomes to roll out mobile money. Enaira smiley wont help

Okay look like Nigeria finally did allow Telcoms to roll out Fintech after ending their regulatory capture by commercial banks. that has seen Nigeria miss the mobile money boat.

The Central Bank of Nigeria has approved the license for MTN’s Mobile Money (MoMo) payment service bank in the country, extending its services to wider banking operations.
The new banking license granted to MTN should allow the company to explore additional growth opportunities presented by the country’s unbanked and underserviced population.

And already making progress

MTN says 4.2 million MoMo wallets opened in two months
Fintech subscribers rose by 87.3% to 11.5 million since launch of PSB on 19 May 2022

Telecommunications company MTN Nigeria’s mobile money wallet, MoMo, recorded 4.2 million wallets in less than two months of its launch, the firm said in its financial result for the half year 2022.

I think Nigeria has invested so much in her banking infrastructure to allow a mobile telecommunications company to come compete with her. Though, not as much as the western country . For the west , they are even jealous of the technology , they wish they could own it but I guess they have already exceeded that chance , a little tweak on their banking system may collapsed their financial institution.

MTN Nigeria has been giving licence to start mobile wallet transaction , I really don't know what is stopping them . Maybe it is working but not popular.
Re: Kenyans Are Far Behind Nigerians In Every Aspect – Fani-Kayode by rvp2018: 2:35pm On Dec 07, 2022
Nigeria have not invested in banking infrastructure. It's bank owners who invest - not Nigerians - majority who dont have even a bank account.
It's the Nigeran Bankers - people who OWN the commercial banks - who forced CBN to block Telcoms.
That is REGULATORY CAPTURE - ala Dangote capture of Nigeria industrial space.
CBN should look out for public interest...majority of nigeria who are unbanked...or have to travel long distance to withdraw or deposit money.
Mpesa or mobile money was proven a sucess in kenya from 2007.
Nigeri has missed the boat for 15yrs.

Once Mobile Money grow in Nigeria - their "useless" fintech will disappear - because none of the reach of mobile money - which is available even I think in Sambisa forest/

---> This cant work without Telcom stepping in with their almost ubiquitous coverage

In over 60 percent of rural communities across Nigeria, there are no bank branches, agents or ATM

Another Affordable Housing in nairobi metro - The launch of more than 5,000 housing units in Mavoko Constituency confirms the Government’s strategic focus on expanding access to quality, spacious, clean, safe and secure dwelling places at affordable cost in our country.

Ruto is racing to build two million affordable housing units in 5yrs;

This one alone would dwarf Ghana Central Business district smiley

Ruto already the most influential twitter africa leader....a brilliant workhorse....things are starting to get done in kenya at very fast rate.

Everday Ruto is up by 4am - some event start before even 7 am - and works till late.

Kenya has just entered a stage of RAPID DEVELOPMENT with leader to match it's ambition

Give it to President William Ruto. As others are idling and busy talking at #Kamukunji, he is on his fourth major event of the day - and still counting - for the early riser and workaholic. He is set to launch the first phase of Nairobi Railway City shortly

Nigeria is a country. And this thread is about comparison. If you dont like country comparison - with a negative feel to it - please look for other good feel threads in nairaland. I am sure they are millions such thread.

Why are you hooked up with thread you dont enjoy. I enjoy comparing countries and learn something at end of the day
you're clearly not comparing but criticising.
Why are you about the Ghana Economy like it's your daily hustle.

The beauty of this thread is the pics and not some ' comparison '
Re: Kenyans Are Far Behind Nigerians In Every Aspect – Fani-Kayode by rvp20182: 3:17pm On Dec 07, 2022
I only use repetition as pedagogical aid when dealing with stubborn Ghanians. You need to almost sing a song for them to get it. If they admit that Ghana economic ship has hit an iceberg - we could move on to discussing how it can emerge from there.

But these Ghanians - very stubborn dunderheads.

We can have some feel good comparison but I dont think we will get much value of ; criticism as long as it's constructive is best way to learn

Very useful. This is the way to go.

Only 9M people in Kenya live below the extreme poverty line.

The bulk of those extremely poor people are the northerners who have stubbornly refused to accept modernity and education.

This is disgusting.

I wish I hadn’t clicked that first video, I don’t think I can erase that memory from my mind.

Kenya is truly a cesspit
That is not close to worse --- street boiz/ homeless people ( we call them chokora) live in horrendous states unimaginable --- and it's not only in Kenya. I've seen normal Ghanaians extracting toxic fumes from tires and using them to smoke rodents and sea animals for dinner. They have spoilt the ocean so badly that no one can wish to visit there afterward.
Nigeria is something else --- I've actually seen the obscene --- uncouth, and extremely terrifying videos from your ZOO. I won't even dare to post one cos that will mean an immediate ban.

The person you posted is as dumb as yourself

There's nothing like no credit risk when it comes to bonds, many people think it is a risk free investment vehicle because their investment houses usually hide it from them and just like this guy expressing a dumb opinion on bonds, so are you also posting a stupid empty comment like a he goat.

Read the attachment, it's from Australia...
If you understand it, you'll know it's similar grin

Market approach to bond yields carry a risk that can be beneficial to creditors when inflation keeps going down and they enjoy it a lot but it can also be beneficial to the Sovereign when inflation is going up because yields will have to drop.

You can also thank me for the free financial education... Now you can run to your banker to enquire of your risk exposure. grin
Save your words. I am not interested.

What madness are you on.
KPLC requires 50-70M dollars monthly to pay IPPs and loans they took in foreign currency.
They need to figure out how to survive the dollar crunch
And are proposing charging customers in EPZ, embassies and such dollars if they agree

As for Ghana - have you even paid Nigeria for Gas without walking sleeping Buhari ?

You own power companies dont even pay for their debt - it's Ghana gov that pays
Is Ghana oweing Nigeria Gas?

Evidence please
