What can southern governors and politicians achieve?
Northern region of Nigeria used its military dictators to divide Nigeria into 19 states for one region - north with corresponding number of legislative seats; but left only 17 states for the 2 southern regions that formed independent Nigeria with the northern region.
Land mass or population figures is never used in any other country as criterion to proliferate too many new federating units in a region with larger land mass or population, except in Nigeria.
There should have been more states in the 2 old southern regions, than in the northern region. Present NW and NE zones benefit most from the fraud of states creation.
But today, if any southerner complaints that the southern regions were shortchanged through state creation, a SW MURIC person will say : Borno or Niger state, for example, in the north is larger, or more populated, than the land mass of all the states in the SS or SE put together; so how was the SS or SE shortchanged through states creation?
The result of the fraud of state creation for the southern regions includes, losses from shared federal allocations and political prowess.
Today, talk about political restructuring of Nigeria democratically, Arewa politician will clumsily tell you to come to the National Assembly for political restructuring, or that he does not understand the reason for political restructuring of Nigeria.
Worse, the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria supervised by same northern military dictators had no referendum that backed it.
