Yesterday ISRO and JSIIC jointly conducted Hypersonic vehicle trials , no other info given

What is interesting is JSIIC is a military entity related to tech and ISRO as a rule doesn't involve directly with military

What hypersonic vehicle they tested is not revealed but from open sources it is assumed to be HAVA which is a scramjet powered lifting body hypersonic vehicle

If in the test the scramjet ran for 250 seconds than it is world's longest flight with sustained hypersonic combustion till date

The technologies of HAVA are to be used in

ISRO two stage to orbit TSTO vehicle powered by air breathing combined cycle engine (Turbo-Ramjet and Scramjet) and Rocket engines

And

Drdo land launched long range hypersonic cruise missile (scramjet) and air launched long range hypersonic cruise missile (hybrid engine with ramjet and scramjet)

I almost mistook it for a modified Indian version of Zicron until I saw Hypersonic glide vehicle is different from Hypersonic cruise vehicle.

So what differences are there in both

1. Zircon hypersonic cruise missile can be compared functionally to Brahmos 2 hypersonic cruise missile

2. The DRDO hypersonic glide vehicle in the pic can be compared functionally to Avangard hypersonic glide vehicle

Very simplistic explanation on difference

Hypersonic glide vehicle HGV is basically the rentry section (warhead) which utilises the high hypersonic speed of missile on which it sits and it's own aerodynamic configuration to glide to target using shaped trajectories at hypersonic speeds

Hypersonic cruise vehicle HCV is basically a vehicle which uses a scramjet or dual mode ramjet engine to propel the vehicle at hypersonic speeds

Scramjet engines are one of the most difficult things to get working

Trying to start and than keep a scramjet engine running is like trying to light a matchstick inside a hurricane and than keep it burning inside the hurricane

HCV is far more complex to master than HGV
