Nonsense, just wait Dangote refinery will soon open and there will be fuel flowing like the rivers of Gilead.

Enemies of Buhari will be crying soon. grin

This is why the scarcity will persist.

At NNPC filing station Rumuomasi, Port Harcourt in Rivers state. The attendant, under the supervision of the manager, were busy since 3AM selling to gallons for black marketers. The attendant even had the audacity to splash fuel at the angry computers, when he noticed he was being recorded.

As at November, NNPC was bringing in fuel at 510 naira and selling it to depot at N140, and at it stations at N180

That means NNPC since November has been losing at least N340 for every liter of fuel sold under its auspices.

Selling to black market is how they recoup some of those losses.

The money budgeted for subsidy is not enough to cover the losses...especially since oil prices rose this year.

Part of the Rascality Peter Obi is talking about. NNPC gives out Crude Oil, and collects finished product in exchange yet they still talk about subsidy.

What about all the other remaining finished products that NNPC didn't collect from the people it gave Crude Oil to? At least 11 finished products can be gotten from Crude Oil
Let's say you ran a bakery baking biscuits, bread, cake, and puff puff

Let's say it costs you N100 to bake a biscuit, N1000 for one loaf of bread, 10000 for a cake, and 200 for puff puff

Government comes in and tells you to reduce your bread prices to N200 to help the poor

At the end, you will lose money which would affect any profit from baking other products.

The loss may even eat the profits from all your other baked products.

Apply that to the petroleum sector...and you will see why.

Deepthoughts:
Removing subsidy totally may not solve the problem,if subsidy is totally removed with crude oil been sold at international rate n the naira depreciating continuously how on Earth are going to fare better,I think the best solution would be to permit individuals the right to build refineries that would sell their products locally only then sell the crude to them at an agreed local rate.
But the indidivduals have to sell their refined products at a profit...which is why subsidy can be removed....because under subsidy they would be forced to sell at a loss to help the poor.

Petroleum marketers in Nigeria are the biggest corrupt cabals and cartels in this country. They have the same operational principle with NURTW. They have only one goal- To rip off the common man.

We know this is a well set out plan to create an artificial scarcity, sell fuel at a price close to the post-subsidy removal price just to avert any unrest or protest.

NNPC brings in fuel at N510 as at November...and that fuel is supposed to be sold at N180

Plus in 2021 we spent 2.1 trillion on subsidy

By 2022 August, thanks to increase in crude oil price, and by extension increase in cost of fuel...we spent N2.6 trillion ..and 2022 was not yet over.

Think on that

To all those blaming Buhari, shey na him refuse to revamp the refineries all these years?

We have had 3 administrations before him and none of them worked on our refineries or at least took a step towards building a new one.

We now have Port Harcourt refinery about to start work in the coming months, latest 2024 and the oga pata pata of them all Dangote refinery about to be commissioned.

We are faced with the consequences of bad leadership starting from Obasanjo the ghost face killer.
Buhari promised to get the refineries working nau. It is mentally retrogressive to keep blaming governments that have gone. If the next person that enters now continues blaming Buhari where will Nigeria be? Nawao.

Nigeria government is our enemy

The amount of money spent on Lagos -ibdaan rail project is enough to setup modular refinery that will refine 100,000bpd

Now, Lagos - Ibadan rail will not serve numbers of people that the modular refinery will serve

Before you condemn my post, please make your research about cost of modular refinery and cost of the said rail project, compare what Nigeria need most between the 2.

Nigeria government needs to write out scale of preference instead of eye service projects

There is only one answer and that is the removal of subsidies totally.

Otherwise there is going to be scarcity whoever is in charge because the price controls inherent in subsides will prevent profits being made which would lead to scarcity

The free money from subsidy leads to corruption and stealing.

The mass smuggling of cheap fuel means we lose billions for nothing. Mass smuggling that both big and small people do

And it is obvious that 50 years of subsidy has resulted in the decline of domestic refining capacity.

Remove subsidy. Let the market control the price. Just like we do for other things

But this apc govt wants to keep believing in the false god called cheap fuel. And they sacrifice our economy and future on its altar

You can disagree with me without losing your mind. As someone here has done so politely and I have responded to him politely.
Why is NNPC unable to remit anything to CBN despite the Ukraine /Russia war despite the fact crude oil was 100 dollars and selling at 70 dollars per barrel or so.
Nigeria was able to save for ECA and remit 3b dollars during the Libya crisis to NNPC and we didn't face the worse hiccups of fuel crisis at the filling station.
I blame Niger delta.

Railways is very important, especially as it would take off the traffic on our road.

If we remove subsidy on petrorl, yes prices will go up...but there will be enough investment flowing in to build refineries...since there is now incentive to do so.

Better still, government would not spend a dime

See our GSM towers, and antenna. No government money was spent, because government did not come in and regulate or control the prices they set. That meant they invested heavily in Nigeria...because they knew they would MAKE A PROFIT.

Questions have been asked repeatedly how they came out that figure (510) and answers have not been provided till today, the statistics of fuel consumed daily has also remained a secret as well as the volume of crude explored and refined and brought into Nigeria. That a liter cost 510 and being subsidized to 140 is a BIG SCAM

my point about subsidy removal is, if it is too heavy for the government to pay, why not stop by doing the right thing which is to build refinery. 3.6 trillion has been budget for 6 months subsidy. How much is the cost of building a refinery. Since 2012 they want to stop subsidy but no plan of building refinery. Why again can't the government give licence to all this multinational companies to build refinery?.
Don't be surprise all this noise about subsidy removal could just be political with aim of aiding Dangote refinery.

Oga, the cost of crude went up this year, plus the cost of the fuels used to transport it...because of rising oil price due to the European war.

Once you think about it, you will see why.

NNPC in 2021 had a landing cost of 230 in March, 261 in June 2021...then in Feb 2022...the war happened...and by November it was N510.

And NNPC sustains losses by selling fuel below the landing cost. And as the price of refining that fuel increases...so does your subsidy cost.

.

There is Dangote refinery, five other private refineries, plus two NNPC refineries are being renovated.

Plus NNPC spends all its profits making sure fuel is cheap. That is why there is no money for more refineries.

3.6 trillion has been budget for 6 months subsidy. How much is the cost of building a refinery.
Tor, let us remove the subsidy and use the money for the refinery. But you guys will start shouting poverty!

Because you want cheap fuel...without thinking about the cost that goes into producing it.

Remove subsidy so that you can have enough profit to bring about working refineries...that is how Niger Republic does it.
Don't be surprise all this noise about subsidy removal could just be political with aim of aiding Dangote refinery.
[/quote]Yes, because if Dangote refines fuel above N250 and comes to sell it at N40 to people like you, he won't have any profit to keep his refinery running. And it will collapse, and we would be back to importing fuel.

How can nnpc be recording oil export on a sheet of paper and we call this a country. Even customs nor weigh and balance dont have a single record of oil exports.
The kind of theft going on in oil sector is unimaginable. How Nigeria could not meet OPEC production quota due to massive oil theft under this saintly government is still a surprise. Surprisingly, all the loquacious critics of Jonathan government have lost their voices while the country is plunged into an abyss of debt and massive looting due to tribalism. Shame.

Like you did not get my analogy

The bakery is the refinery and the bread is PMS

The cake, biscuits, and puff puff are the other refined products. Cake stands in for diesel and ago.

Now, think on my analogy again.

Plus using yours...NNPC is only bringing in a few products because 1) it is not being given enough flour 2) it was told to sell crumpets, pasts, muffins etc at low prices to help the poor...which meant that it was not profitable to run such production lines. 3.It is selling bread below production cost to help the poor.

how many times have you board the said train? The said train never moved goods or people from Lagos - Oshogbo because it stopped in Ibadan

The importance of rail system is for easy commuting at reduced rate & ease traffic on road but the present rail system failed woefully in that regards

Why not invest the money in what will serve millions of people than spending it on what will enrich few people?

Crude oil prices depreciated so Nigeria has to use from the reserve (ECA) for subsidy yet we didn't borrow to fund our budget neither were we borrowing excessively for projects yet we were paying subsidy.
Forward to Buhari administration crude oil prices started increasing yet we could not fund our budget or remit anything to CBN.
The unsubstantial excuse was militant illegal tapering of oil pipes and stealing of Crude oil (bunkering) - Jonathan's administration there was more militants activities than Buhari yet we did not see these propaganda been peddled on Nigeria.
We saw what tompolo unravel which shows that it was a cooperate illegal practice.
We can go on and on but Buhari administration on crude oil dealings has to be seriously probed for whom ever has the capacity to do so.
We are waiting for the excuses after fuel subsidy removal, it will surely come.

For the record...and you are free not to believe me

2.I was pro-subsidy from 1993 till 2011, when I woke up thanks to the enlightenment of people like Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and Ngozi Okonjo Iweala

3.The final nail in my coffin of believing in subsidy was when in 2012 i was introduced to the concept of landing cost. Whose implications not only shocked me, but helped me finally wake up to why government was trying to remove subsidy then

4.Since then, I have been a ferocious opponent of subsidy.
