Do you know south african musicians? See as regards to music gene, it is only Nigeria that has gone globalized in africa and the reason is that they aren't self sponsored. It is serious business in Nigeria. Don jassy has sponsored so many top brand. They work with record label which is ready to spend on them , tuface was popularized by Kenny's music. And so are other many brands . Apart from davido , I am yet to see a self sponsored musician in Nigeria who rise to global chart on his own account . I am ready to be challenged. Davido achieved it because he invested heavily in himself ( there is money at home)

most of Ghanaian musicians are self sponsored hence the reason of slow penetration. Just look at the recent black sheriff that is managed by a musical brand , he once top musical chart for a longer months in Nigeria . He was know within a year just because he was managed all over the world . Once you are managed by a rich musical brand , you will be known and accepted.

It depends on how heavy they are ready to sponsor you. Now Nigeria is the old usa of africa . Works with Nigeria brand and get yourself known all over the world . You may be less paid and heavily used Anyway but it is only for limited time till you can stand on your own. Check ashake currently , he is being managed by a brand. Do you know how much a top brand kiss Daniel was paid when he was working with a record label ( G - worldwide) you will laugh out your ass. He is now a top brand . I agree with you, but ask yourself why sponsorships are becoming a normal thing for Nigerian musicians.
sponsorships are easily obtained from a well-sold/known brand. Some elit musicians from Ghana have several endorsement deals - some international. I just googled 7 major sarkodie endorsement deals and I can tell you without any fear of contradiction, that deals and sponsorship are earned. Sarkodie is the only guy I knew from Ghana and his tracks are tremendously superb. I've just checked shatta wall and I am liking him too; his deals are also on another level.

I believe davido built himself before deals started seeking him; same to wizkid and Burnaboy.

I just googled 7 major sarkodie endorsement deals and I can tell you without any fear of contradiction, that deals and sponsorship are earned. Sarkodie is the only guy I knew from Ghana and his tracks are tremendously superb. I've just checked shatta wall and I am liking him too; his deals are also on another level.

TBH, I know few SA musicians, not as fewer as Ghana though.

this is why you have to give sarkodie a full respect , he got there only by sponsoring himself , this is someone from average home unlike davido ( rich man son) many top Nigeria brands that are known today get there thru extablished and rich record label.


Wizkid was sponsored and so is burnaboy before they become independent. They all pass thru hands of extablished hand who was ready to spend on them. I remember empire mate for Wizkid.

Sponsorship can be earn also thru deals ( you can actually pay for it , you look for it yourself.
