Johana Maritim Butuk, 99, from Kenya, has married her girlfriend Alice Jemeli, 40, after 20 years of dating. The couple got married in a colorful wedding ceremony in Soy, Uasin Gishu county on Saturday, January 14, 2023.

When they first met in 2003, Jemeli was 20 and Butuk was 69. Despite the age difference, their love blossomed when they started dating.

The nonagenarian proposed to Jemeli in December 2022 and plans for a wedding ceremony started.

According to reports, it was Butuk's first marriage since he has never dated a woman in the 99 years he has lived. However, Jemeli has three children from a previous relationship and is happy Butuk has accepted them.

The couple held their wedding ceremony in their cottage in the village of Tuiyobei ​​Soy B. They were walking around the fenceless farm, in the presence of a few relatives. The couple exchanged vows during their wedding at nearby St Mark's Soy B Catholic Church, and locals attending the ceremony described it as colorful.

Residents say they had never seen a 99-year-old man marrying a woman the age of "his granddaughter."
