The introduction of the policy is more political than economical. If not I don't see the reason why the new and old notes could not exist side by side until the cbn finally mop up the old notes from circulation. Many businesses and traders are still not taking transfers and these are sellers of products and services people need, so the burden is on people to go and sleep at the ATMs to get cash. There's this attachment to cash out that would take time to eliminate or reduce if you want to avoid the kind of chaos you have concerning cash issues now. It's not as if the authorities don't know this but like I said the move is a calculated political move. The stupid man who calls himself a president has done this before in the 80s. In his mind he thinks he is fighting corruption.

Going cashless is not something you rush or force. It's an organic growth thing. People are already going cashless. I stand to be corrected, volume of online transfers in Nigeria is one of the highest in Africa.

This political angle to it is also a worthy point and what makes everything a bit more complex to be honest.
But if this is majorly to prevent vote buying as many think, then it has failed.

There is nothing poor/terrible about implementing a cashlite policy . The naira redesign is not a bad policy, it just wasn't given enough preparation.
The CBN should have allowed Enaira and telcos get more rooted in rural areas before implementing the policy. Also a daily withdrawal of 50,000 naira notes would have been okay. Also, left to me I would redesign only 500 and 1000 naira notes leaving the 200 naira available.
If they can work around these cracked edges, I don't see how this is poor in economics.
It would be poor only if they don't adjust the policy but we all expect them to do so.

Digital financial inclusion is awesome but in a society that has almost 90 percent of her citizens as literate not Nigerian where majority trade informally and still prefer the old method of doing business , that is to say( physical cash swapping goods and services . That Fulani cow men don't care about your bank account , malla seeling roasted suya or sugar cane care less about your fucking transfer , the igbo man selling okirika ( old cloth) also careless about your digital money,nor those the Yoruba driver from ibadan to lages is interested in anything electronic cash. What he wants his money , his physical cash.

Nigeria should introduce it stage by stage , making it more attractive rather than making it completely compulsory. It is a serious problem in Nigeria . Many nigerians ain't informed. Go to the north you will be suprised . Some don't even know money can be taken thru machines .in Ghana , Your sim card automatically make you an holder of electronic account. So you received money on the same account you used to receive calls . The account is not subjected to internet as it can be carried out on simple SMS.

There are also lots of fintech in Nigeria working hard to make the best of this already coupled with the Enaira.

No , I am talking about mobile money. It is not only limited to mobile service as it transferable on any financial support. That is to say from from mobile wallet to your bank wallet or from your bank account to mobile wallet . Whatever ways . Any financial means is acceptable and possible. That is what we called financial inclusion . We are streamlining the used of money digitally even to the common man who only access to electronic is nokia 3310.
