There is tension in Nigeria. And this tension is associated with the hardship in the country brought about by the shortage of the new Naira note.

In various cities in Nigeria, protest has been recorded. And some of these protests have been reported to be violent.

Protests erupted in the southwestern Nigerian city of Ibadan on Wednesday. Angry bank customers burned tires and blocked streets. And they cited the scarcity of Naira notes as the cause.

The shortage of new notes has led to limited access to cash and ATM withdrawals. And this is while some businesses have refused to accept old Naira notes.

This shortage of cash comes at a critical time as Nigeria prepares for its presidential election on February 25.
