BismiLlahir Rahmaanir Raheem Innal hamda liLlah, nahmaduhu wa nastaeenuhu wanastaghfiruhu wa naoodhu biLlahi min shuroori anfusina wa min sayyi aati a'malina man yahdihiLlahu fala mudhiLla lah wa man yudhlil fala ahdiya lahu wa ash adu anna Muhammadan abduhu warosooluh, amma ba'd: It's no news that elections are going on in Nigeria today being the 25th of February of the 2023 of the Gregorian calendar. What should be of utmost importance to you as a Muslim looking forward to meet His Lord "راضية مرضية" = "You please with Him and Him pleased with you" is to know, learn and abide by the Islamic teachings regarding the subject matter. This then call for the questions of what is the Islamic rules on election and voting? As it may interest you to know, Islam has rulings and answers for every event and topic. some of which may have direct rules from the Qur'an, Sunnah or traditions of the righteous predecessors and others with applied rules derived from the trio. What's the Islamic Rules on Election and Voting? Electing the right leader in Islam is ideally done in the following ways: Concesus of the Muslims has it occurred during the choice of Abu Bakr (RA) The Choice of the passing away leader as it happened during the choice of Umar by Abubakar (RA). Selection of the leader by eminent and knowledgeable personalities as it occurred during the choosing of Uthman Bin Affaan by the companions (RA). In all the above instances , the major considerations are piety, knowledge and following the injunctions of Allah and His prophet as regards choosing of leaders. So these factors should be your consideration when Allah tests you to have the ability to be among those that will make a choice of leadership. This is because you will account for that choice and action one day. Most importantly, Nigeria as a nation is not using a constitution based on what Allah revealed in the Qur'an, Sunnah, the Torah and the Injeel. You as Muslim shouldn't be happy and pleased with the substitute to it called 'democracy '. You should also not rule yourself and your family with its doctrine especially when you are not under coersion. Those that make the decision to rule the populace with man-made laws as a substitute to the laws of the heavens and the earth will answer for it. ومن لم يحكم بما أنزل الله فألىئك هم الكافرون whosoever does not rule with what Allah has revealed is among the disbelievers. ومن لم يحكم بما أنزل الله فألىئك هم الفىسقون whosoever does not rule with what Allah has revealed is among the sinners. ومن لم يحكم بما أنزل الله فألىئك هم الظالمون whosoever does not rule with what Allah has revealed is among the transgressors. The basis of participating to elect a democratic government which means a government who will not rule by what Allah has revealed is therefore haram because of the verses above. It becomes permissible by the conclusion of some scholars of which I agreed to when there's a dire necessity for it as it is the case in Nigeria. WaLlahu A'lam. |
