OBASANJO’s MISCHIEF AND HYPOCRISY ON DISPLAY AGAIN

Our attention has been drawn to a press statement by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in which he was virtually calling for a truncation of the ongoing electoral process and a cancellation of already conducted elections on the basis of frivolous, unfounded and baseless allegations by politicians who are sore losers and have no respect for democratic values.

Obasanjo repeated without the slightest iota of evidence rumours he had picked up that the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System had been compromised and that the results of elections being announced are fraudulent. It is tragic that a former President who ought to be a statesman in comportment and speech will recklessly seek to endanger and derail our democratic process for utterly selfish, egoistic and malicious reasons. He offers not a single credible piece of evidence to prove his laughable and ridiculous allegations against INEC and the credibility of the ongoing process.

Of course, we are all aware that Obasanjo is not an impartial and disinterested party as far as this election is concerned. On January 1, 2023, he had issued a characteristically lengthy epistle to Nigerians endorsing the candidacy of Mr Peter Obi and asking Nigerian youths to vote en masse for him. Of course our reaction was that the former President was entitled to his view and that the outcome of the elections would demonstrate if he had any electoral value. As fate would have it, Peter Obi was defeated even in Obasanjo’s own polling unit in Abeokuta in Ogun State. But it is now obvious that the only election Obasanjo will agree to being free, fair and credible is one that produces Obi as winner which is ridiculous.

Is Obasanjo also querying the outcome of the presidential elections in Lagos or Delta where Obi won? If the outcome in Lagos won by Obi is free and credible, on what basis is he querying the outcome of the elections in other places? This is pure mischief and sheer hypocrisy. Obasanjo wants President Muhammadu Buhari to intervene in an undemocratic manner to truncate the ongoing political process just the way he did most shamelessness in the 2003 and 2007 elections widely described as the worst in our political history. Luckily, President Buhari is made of finer and more principled democratic stuff. He will not allow Obasanjo to lure him into tainting his democratic credentials in this regard. We recall that in his last trip to the United States, President Joe Biden praised Buhari ‘s commitment to democratic values and principles. Obasanjo has no such record to be applauded. The world has not forgotten his fraudulent and undemocratic attempt at a third term agenda in violation of the letter and spirit of the Nigerian constitution.

This is an election in which ASIWAJU Tinubu, for instance, has lost in Lagos state in his South West region while Atiku and Obi have also won elections outside their own regional bases. No true democrat must seek an abortion of the process just because he believes the elections are not going his way. What Obasanjo is subtly calling for in his nefarious statement is a coup against democracy and the constitution. He should be roundly condemned and severely ignored. The constitution has stipulated processes for seeking redress against electoral malpractices in the past and these have been tested several times and used to redress electoral injustice where such has been proven. Nigerians must reject Obasanjo’s dubious and hypocritical advice and stay strictly and firmly on the path of constitutionalism and democratic due process.

Signed
DELE ALAKE
Special Adviser, Media, Communications and Public Affairs, APC PCC.

Pa OBJ himself.

Election Updates...

1. Peter Obi wins "Tinubu's" Lagos. But you are still saying INEC is rigging for Tinubu just so that when Tinubu wins Katsina, you will say it was rigged.

Oh wait. Atiku won Katsina, Buhari's State.

So really how many persons do you want to accuse INEC of rigging for? Why not accept where your candidate lose?

2. So Obi can win Lagos, it is not rigging. But Amoda Ogunlere cannot win Osun that you said he is from, it is rigging.

Oh wait. Tinubu did not even win Osun. Atiku did. So what are you saying please? You thought Obi will win Osun??

3. Obi went to Kano and went straight to Sabon Gari where you have Igbos and minority Christians.

That is the divisive campaign Obi ran yet you will shout rigging if Tinubu wins Kano.

Oh wait. It is Kwankwaso that is winning Kano despite being an enemy of the sitting APC Governor!

Again, what are you saying

4. In the South East where Obi is from, Obi is winning by 90%

In the South West where Tinubu is from, Obi has won Lagos, Atiku took Osun. But when Tinubu takes Ekiti, it is rigging.

What is wrong with you guys?

5. Obi is winning in Edo State. If you add PDP and APC votes and times it by 2, Obi is still winning. This is a State where there is a PDP Governor and a Former APC National Chairman.

But it is rigging anywhere Obi is not winning. How can a people be this bigoted?

6. I have read, on WhatsApp, people saying they will poison food and give to Northerners for not voting Obi.

I have read people here saying they will never give a Northern beggar any money for not voting Obi.

Meanwhile Obi is clearing the South South and South East and Northerners are not threatening anyone. And you will call them uncivilized?

7. An unknown Labour party candidate for House of Rep, defeated the APC and PDP to win Etin-Osa Fed. Constituency in Lagos.

The APC guy was Obanikoro's son. The PDP guy was Banky W the musician. Both floored by a Labour party candidate people didn't know.

But the election was rigged is coming from the mouth of Labour party supporters.

8. Another unknown Labour party candidate defeated the APC and PDP in the major Senatorial Election in Edo.

The gap was almost 200%. If you add the PDP and APC votes together, the unknown Labour candidate still beat them with over 50k votes and these were not small candidates. They are the two most influential people in Benin!

But Labour Party supporters are still shouting rigging, failed election. Does this make sense

9. Obi is heading to 500,000 votes in Enugu. Whereas Tinubu has less than 5,000 votes in the whole Enugu.

This is not rigged, but wherever Tinubu wins is rigged.

10. Atiku's VP is the GOVERNOR of Delta State.

In Delta State, Obi has won 11 out of the 16 Local Government Areas annoinced so far.

But his supporters are still shouting the election is rigged. Is that not madness?

NB: If you cause the war you are using to bully everyone we will all suffer it. Pat Utomi that is encouraging you will carry his oyinbo face and seek asylum somewhere in America or Europe where he will collect cool breeze and return after your demise to claim hero of democracy. Use sense.

Don't mind Obasanjo hypocrisy. Is President Buhari the right person to order INEC to re-conduct election? Is the action OBJ calling for democratic and constitutional? What then is the function of election tribunal panel?
That's probably what he would have done if he's the president, an old idiotic dictator.

Haaaaaaaa,Baba Obasanjo but why...
This is the same way this Baba aided and abated Ibrahim Babaginda to annul the June 12 Elections.
Baba Obasanjo must be an egoistic maniac to ever ask Baba Buhari to truncate an already finished Election.
He's not neutral and should never try to stop a moving train.
His stooge Peter Obi won 8 states in the South,3 in the North and the FCT,yet Baba is shamelessly calling for a coup on Democracy.
Baba Obasanjo will eventually be seen for what he's,an egomaniac who doesn't want another president from the South-west expect for himself.
His end will be shameful,He suffered the most when Babaginda annulled the June 12 Elections, not only was he Incarcerated, but he lost almost all his earthly possession, all because of his jeolousy and envy for MKO Abiola.
I expect all Men and women of conscience to stoutly oppose these crazed and greedy old man before he leads Nigeria down the tunnel of destruction again.
Baba Obasanjo shame on you.
God bless Nigeria...

Don't worry, the world will start reacting very soon , with the western powers of United States, united kingdom, Canada, India, Australia, France, Germany, Spain , even South Africa, Ghana,Kenya , ivory coast etc , condemning the election in very strong terms and vowing not to recognise the aspirations of crooked politicians thrown up by such useless election. I Remember what happened to Gbagbo of Ivory coast very clearly and how easy it will be in Nigeria.

This would be made worse by the fact that this is a Muslim Muslim ticket and it's potentially volatility to cause issues in this part of the world.

Good morning APC. Your breakfast is ready to be served.

If very urgent care is not taken, the security agencies might have no other option than to step in and install an interim government that would restore order, peace and tranquillity.

Obasanjo has no moral right to comment on the credibility of an election because he did worse as a president. The 2007 elections was an absolute joke. Even the winner of the election had to admit. Obj had 8 whole years to lay the foundation of a great democracy but the military man in him wasted those years.

Let's stop saying election was compromised because our candidate didn't win. All the anger and tension boiling at the moment in the country is because both Atiku and Obi are losing. This anger could have easily been avoided had they listen to Soludo's advise of nzogbu nzogbu politics.

We've never had credible elections since democracy. Even the results coming out from the south east was rigged going by the unofficial results I'm seeing.

Personally, I voted for Atiku. Because I truly believe he's the most prepared among the candidates for the office of a president. But SE and SS which has always been his strong hold decided to go against him. Now the two losers are United in defeat.

Congratulations to BAT

Let's see if he can turn Abuja into the largest economy city of Africa like he always claim to have done in Lagos.

Unlike Lagos, we know what Abuja is atm and how it'll be after him
