It's possible that the ready abundance of the Sun made it less important for deification unlike in other climes where existence was centered around the Sun. Our forefathers simply became too 'familiar' with the Sun, took it for granted, and made deities out of what mattered more to them, e.g., rivers, thunder, trickery, farming, etc

It's really baffling. Sub-Saharan Africans worshipped rivers, oceans, lightning/thunder, but didn't consider the sun as anything special. Whereas, in Europe and the Americas it was a special object of worship

Really? I've not read much about the Igbo Pantheon though (apart from stuff I gleaned from Chinua Achebe's novels).

Ekwensu is not the devil but a trickster which is Esu in Yoruba. Most cultures have that mythical god so I think there is a truth to it. Africans don’t have a concept of evil of such magnitude that the whites have with the Devil.

Trickster god balances good and evil and ensure there is a price to pay for every deed.

some parts of Igbo land are of mixed Edo history especially in Anambra state and surrounding areas, they are the ones that worship mamiwater although I don't think they call by that name traditionally.
