Why Can't Election Petitions Have Time Limits? by RenaissanceGuy(op): 1:26pm On Mar 13, 2023
2020 American presidential election took place on November 3, and less than 7 weeks after, on the 14th December, Supreme Court had already given judgment: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-55283024.amp on the case. And Biden was sworn in a month after.

Why should Nigeria's own take nearly more than a year for judgment to be given? The advantage of getting judgement before the real winner is sworn in, is that it would prevent the announced winner from getting distracted by litigation matters.

And if the petitioner is the rightful winner of the election, he'll assume the position without having to spend a long time moving from one Tribunal to Appeal and then to Supreme Court cumulatively adding up to 1 year.

Another advantage is that the declared president-elect or governor-elect or senator-elect, would not have enough power and influences to bribe or influence the judges or justices.

Though nothing is impossible, but removing an already sworn in president through the court sounds very unpopular and may provoke ethnic protests, unless the replacement are from the same region e.g. Yoruba vs Yoruba or North vs North or Igbo vs Igbo.

That's 6 loooooong months and that's just for Tribunal only. Factor in Appeal Court and Supreme Court and it'll be a year plus.

Ngige (PDP) Stole Obi's mandate in 2003 and Obi Retrieved it in 2006. sad

Tinubu (APC) Stole Obi's mandate in 2023 and Obi will retreive it, @Maximum 3months! cool

Like Osariemmen Osunbor in 2007, Tinubu will NOT LAST on that seat. smiley
