The lack of an official congratulatory message from US President Joe Biden to Nigerian politician Bola Tinubu has sparked various reactions. Traditionally, the US President sends congratulations to any American ally who becomes a new president.

Tinubu is currently the President-elect of Nigeria, and some have expressed surprise at the absence of a message from Biden.


Former Nigerian Minister of Aviation and Director of Tinubu/Shettima presidential campaign council, Chief Femi Fani Kayode, recently took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the matter. He stated that regardless of whether Biden congratulates Tinubu or not, he is the President-elect of the largest, wealthiest, most populous, most developed, and most enlightened nation in Africa. Additionally, Nigeria is the Western world’s biggest trading partner on the continent, and both countries need each other.
