Talking of re-developing the Awka Town market......may we borrow a leaf from the Kejetia central market in Kumasi..........a modern spin on the Onitsha main market built in the 1960s........Truth be told decades of retrogressive military and fulani rule has stagnated regional initiatives in real development. Nigeria and especially Ndigbo have lost the plot absolutely.........projects are ill conceived and even in the rare cases projects are well conceived they are shabbily executed! we need to up our game ....and fast too!

The ONLY Governors in the Southeast with the boldness and vision to build this type of ultra-modern market are Obiano and Umahi. The rest are small-time village champions that talk way too much and deliver next to nothing to match their plentiful empty words.

The problem with the Southeast today is that we have watered down the standards so badly. For instance, in the 1950s & 1960s, even as regional premiers, you would see Zik or Michael Okpara invite world-class architects to build standard universities or other infrastructure because they really wanted to compete with the very best globally. Today's southeast leaders have no such visions to do anything outstanding EXCEPT Obiano and Umahi that tried to build facilities that rose above the normal mediocre shoddy village standard of Southeast governors' projects.

Since Anambra's comparative advantage is in the area of Trade & Commerce if we could have a new Anambra international market located somewhere between Awka to Onitsha Expressway, which would be massive, extremely well-planned, better and more modern than Onitsha main market built in the 1960s, and ensure it has ample parking spaces for both traders and visitors to the market. Such a facility can quadruple the GDP of Anambra while creating new job opportunities and wealth for millions of people. But of course, we no longer have Governors who dream such big dreams anymore and have the true commitment and capacity to pursue their dream to fruition. That is why Umahi and Obiano would continue to be landmark periods in Southeast history when Governors that dared to have big dreams and pursue them to logical fruition led their people into a new era that was better than what they met.

Well, Soludo is aggressively tackling the dearth of road infrastructure in the state. My hope is that he means it and not doing so merely for elections. If Soludo is able to tackle the issue of bad roads in Anambra cities as well as build a world-class international market or modular refinery near the airport, he would have contributed immensely to the future greatness of the state.

My only concern is for Soludo to forget politics for now and face his work! Las las, he will be judged by what he was able to achieve NOT what he said or didn't say. I pray for him to remain 100% focused on his work and deliver good governance to many many people that fervently hoped for him to succeed in delivering the dividends of infrastructural transformation of the state.

HE MUST NOT BE DISTRACTED BY ABUJA POLITICS AND FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION.

I agree! Soludo's achilles heel is this penchant to play Abuja politics............to the detriment of our own local interests! Soludo has a job to do and it is incumbent on him to concentrate on his gubernatorial assignment and stop angling for whateva Igbo presidency he dreams about! He certainly has the capacity to perform..........I feel he is just distracting himself, his performance these past few weeks has renewed my hope in his capacity once again! My counsel to him is to stabilize road and sanitation infrastructure and then begin work on our dream big ticket projects!

We in Anambra are lagging behind in critical infrastructure in Nigeria....talk less in the west/central African region! I am worried that with the plethora of educated and skilled manpower we have abroad,we find it hard to translate what we see and use abroad back home in terms of proper conception and execution of public projects...................our civil service continues to be a problem,How exposed are these civil servants ? Is it possible to create a window of service for our retiring diaspora professionals or even the younger professionals to contribute their quota ?

Nwokem, without diminishing Umahi's excellent projects,, Obiano performed way better than Umahi.

Apart from Obiano's physical infrastructural projects, he heavily invested in human resources improvement and poverty alleviation projects to reduce poverty in Anambra.

Conversely Umahi used money which could have been wisely invested in education, agriculture and Healthcare to build too many flyovers at irrelevant junctions. This is not to say his countless multicolored flyovers are a bad thing. But if you consider that he ruled the state with the worst poverty in Southern Nigeria and one of the least human development index in Nigeria, his multicolored flyovers where there were no traffic becomes a tragic misuse of public wealth. While we have praised Umahi for doing many concrete roads to ease accessibility to rural parts of Ebonyi state. I believe the money he spent on too many flyovers where there were no traffic gridlock as a tragic waste of precious state resources.

Unike Wike that also built multiple flyovers because he ruled a state with serious traffic problems and relatively more wealthy citizens. Umahi had no such problems. Yet he acted like he had some inferiority complex that flyovers were a symbol of development and to prove Ebonyi was developed he had to have more flyovers. Thus he went on a flyover building spree while other areas of human development suffered.. Umahi's only useful projects are the concrete roads, Abakaliki mall and airport. Even at that it is questionable if those projects will be viable due to the crushing poverty rate in his state. That is why I praise Umahi and bash him sometimes for doing nothing on the poverty alleviation front.Overall I rate Umahi as a great transformative governor, but he could easily have been the greatest Igbo governor since 1999 and done better on all fronts not just on physical infrastructure, and thus be rated as a well rounded governor.

Well that is one way of looking at it. A coin always has two sides.

As a child, my Dad bought a colored TV so that we would stop going to our neighbors house to watch TV and thinking we were inferior to them. Although my mother protested spending the scarce resources on colored TV instead of buying us better clothes, food and school uniforms, I can tell you that the unquantifiable impact on our psychology that we were not inferior to our neighbors made us all exel in school and later in life.

Umahi knows Ebonyi people had been psychologically attacked by their neighbors. His multiple flyover projects that you consider wasteful may be a way to psychologically inspire pride of Ebonyians and encourage his people to disregard the toga of being poor to exel. I still think he is great for doing what was hitherto considered impossible. The same way Obiano achieved projects hitherto considered impossible for Anambra to achieve.. Let the next governor now concentrate on building businesses, agricultural transformation and housing estates. Umahi did his best in just 8 years to make Ebonyi have ones of the best infrastructure in the entire country.

SPECIAL PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

Commercial banks have been directed by the Central Bank to dispense old currency notes and to also receive same as deposits from customers. Tellers at the commercial banks are to generate the codes for deposits and there is no limit to the number of times an individual or company can make deposits.

The Governor of the CBN gave the directive at a Bankers’ Committee meeting held on Sunday, 12th March, 2023. The Governor, Dr Godwin Emefiele, personally confirmed the above to me during a phone conversation on Sunday night. Residents of Anambra are therefore advised to freely accept and transact their businesses with the old currency notes (N200; N500; and N1,000) as well as the new notes.

Residents should report any bank that refuses to accept deposits of the old notes. Anambra State Government will not only report such a bank to the CBN, but will also immediately shut down the defaulting branch.

Signed

C. C. Soludo CFR.
Governor, Anambra State.

Without even mentioning any of Obiano physical infrastructure as bridges, malls, hotels, airports, roads, intl. conference center and flyovers, let's just look at his Human Development efforts and poverty reduction strategies and achievements. That is where he beat Dave Umahi hands down. Imagine that Obiano somehow even managed to get Anambra to become one of the biggest rice producers in Nigeria! He managed to find ways of stimulating economic growth in almost forgotten communities by building some type of community project in every community and using their own people as the construction folks. So that the money reflates the economy of the community. Umahi only did community projects in his own Uburu and nowhere else in the vast rural communities of Ebonyi state.

By direct comparison to Obiano's efforts in poverty reduction, Umahi has done nothing to directly create jobs for the Ebonyi youths to create a skills acquisition center to empower Ebonyi youths with a trade skill for them to be self-employed. Umahi has not made any effort whatsoever to improve Ebonyi's agricultural advantage or to foster the industrialization of Ebonyi state by providing well-equipped industrial estates to incentivize the setting up of agro-processing factories in his state. All of which would have greatly reduced the crushing poverty rate in his state. Again, I appreciate that Umahi did a lot of flyover bridges, but I have mixed feelings every time I see Ebonyi's poverty rate being worse than the poverty rate in even far northern states! It is an abomination to see such a poverty rate in Igboland and the governor only concentrates on building flyovers to compete with Rivers state!

Shut up your useless mouth there. That was how you told us to wait for Ebonyi Airport, to see world class airport Umahi will build that will dwarf Anambra Airport and the the Umahi Airport turned to a laughing stock. Shebi Ebonyi Airport is Almost finished, why didnt you idiots post it here lets compare. You lied that Awka flyovers were substandard because big trucks were not allowed to use it. Soludo has since removed the barricades and big trucks are now using the flyovers again, you hopeless headless mob have become quiet. Yes Obiano took kidnappers like you 10 years behind.

Listen no amount of hate will stop the fact that Obiano remains the best SE governor in history. Even two Umahis cannot challenge Obiano. Obiano was quiet and allowed you idiots to spread all kind of propaganda against his government, Soludo that is ready to match you propaganda for propaganda has come and all of you have turned to towncriers saying he talks too much. I challenge you to open a fresh thread lets compare Umahi Vs Obiano let's see if you will not run with shame!

Don't mind these fools. I only blame Obiano for not being ambitious, thats why they did everything to diminish all his great works. Now that they have seen a governor that wont tolerate such they have become quiet. Even Obi their leader is now praying for Soludo to succeeed as against when he was publicly attacking Obiano.

I always say it that Umahi is too little to compare to Obiano. It was Obiano that inspired umahi to start building flyovers, it was obiano that inspired Umahi to build an airport. We all know when umahi started working. Anambra just joined the list of Oil producing state and in the last figures released, Anambra received over 4 billion in revenue from derivation. This was what Obiano promised before he became governor and was able to achieve it. Other states that laid claim to oil deposits have not been successful. Like I always say, every governor will build roads but not every governor will dare take on things Obiano did for the state.

Is it IGR, is it workers welfare, a lot of Ebonyi workers are being owed salaries.. Only a fool will compare Obiano to umahi. I respect Umahi but anyone comparing him to obiano should stop.

Eke Awka Road Encroachment Challenge By Traders Appears To Have Been Solved

Driving through Eke Awka market in Anambra state has always been nightmarish because of the heavy traffic caused majorly by motorists packing illegally, and traders displaying their wares by the roadside.

With this newly constructed barricade, that problem appears to have been solved. Hopefully, OCHA Brigade and the market leadership will help enforce and ensure that traders and buyers don’t breach the barricade.

Today we activated the process of transforming Ekwulobia into a model city. I have flagged off the construction of a fly-over, a modern bus terminal, adjoining roads, security building, a fire Station amongst others, in the area.

This signposts our deliberate desire to reposition Ekwulobia as a fast emerging urban Centre.

Upon completion, this project will bring about ease of movement from Anambra into Imo State through the Uga-Akokwa corridor.

The project is handled by a reputable Company - AG Vision Construction Limited. The flyover which is about 300 meters long will span from Nanka to Uga. It is also about 5.4 meters tall, and is expected to be delivered in the next 18months.

Anambra will surely win!

Cool! That is a game changer for that axis................I hope soludo is able to widen the roads leading to Nkwo Igbo-Ukwu! This particular axis has always been neglected by past admins..........something spectacular should be done to upgrade infrastructure in Nnewi.......that place does not even have a decent Bus Terminus!

SOLUDO FLAGS-OFF CONSTRUCTION OF EKWULỌBỊA FLYOVER BRIDGE, ROADS, OTHERS

By Osagie Christian Aburime

Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has flagged-off the construction of a flyover bridge in Ekwulọbịa.

Also flagged-off for construction in the location are adjoining roads, a modern bus terminal, a fuel station, a security building, a fire station, among others.

The Contract is being handled by Engineer Elias Tanios of AG Vision Construction Ltd.

Governor Soludo noted that the Contractor had publicly acknowledged receiving a 30% upfront mobilization for the project.

Governor Soludo reiterated that Ekwulobia is the capital of the Old Aguata Union and for that reason development will start in the city, as well as other towns that include Oko, Umunze, Nawfija, Ufuma, Ezira, Enugu Umuonya, etc.

He explained that the proposed flyover will ease traffic for people driving from Awka to Uga, Achina, or Imo State.

The Governor re-emphasised again that Anambra is an "A" State, and all the road projects being undertaken by the government are of the highest caliber, with a minimum 20-year warranty.

"Repairs of vehicles will decrease if standard roads are constructed throughout the state", the Governor added.

The Governor used the occasion to remind the public to cast as many votes for APGA on Saturday, announcing that the project would be completed in 18 months time.

He called on ndị Anambra at home and in the diaspora to participate in the upcoming national census in May this year.

Welcoming the Governor earlier, the Transition Committee Chairman for Aguata Local Government Area, Prince Chibueze Ofobuike said that the flyover befits the town, asserting that in Aguata and OAU generally, Governor Soludo's arrival marks the beginning of bigger things to come.

For the Commissioner for Works, Engr. Ifeanyi Okomma who stated that Ekwulobia is a Federal road, explained that the proposed flyover from Nanka to Uga will be 300 meters long and 5.4 meters tall.

He revealed that a contemporary bus terminal and a fire station would both be constructed in Ekwulobia, saying that the project contractor, AG Vision, is well known across the Country for building bridges.

Wife of the Governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, Chief of Staff, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, Special Adviser to the Governor on Pharmaceuticals, Mr. Nnadozie Godwin, Deputy Majority Leader, Anambra State House of Assemby, Hon. Emeka Aforka, TC Chairman, Orumba North, Sir Ogo Ekwueme, TC Chairman Orumba South, Prince Neville Uchendu, Managing Director, Housing Corporation, Hon. Chike Anyaonu, APGA Stakeholder in the area, Chief Titus Anigbogu, Nze Henry CP, PG of Aguata, Mrs Anthonia Ekwegbele, Woman PG Aguata, Acting PG Ohanaeze, APGA Federal House of Representatives Elect, Engr Dom. Okafor, Tony Muobike, APGA Candidate, Aguata II Constituency among others attended the event which also featured handover of the site certificate to the contractor

EKWULOBIA FLYOVER & MODERN BUS TERMINALS

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rd97I2IwhUI

Beautiful idea to construct a flyover at that location, but single lane overpass design as can be seen from the enclosed picture will not be fit-for-purpose in future, I am not impressed. CFC and even Rumola Flyovers at PH had a similar design limitations until Wike dualized the flyovers.

Go and face your backward useless imo state. Your opinion is not needed here. If Ekwulobia can have a flyover and other associated infrastructures whereas Owerri till date doesn't have a single functional flyover, that's to tell you how backward your state is.

This bill seeks to move the item “airports” from the exclusive legislative list to the concurrent legislative list.

This bill seeks to delete the item “prisons” from the exclusive legislative list and redesignate it as “correctional services” in the concurrent legislative list.

This bill seeks to delete after the word, “areas”, the words, “not covered by a national grid system” in the concurrent legislative list. This will allow states to generate, transmit and distribute electricity in areas covered by the national grid within their respective domains.

It will be very bad if Soludo build this as a single lane road.

Amendments Passed by Buhari devolving power from Federal to States and my opinion on what Anambra/SE should do:

AIRPORTS
Constitution (Fifth Alteration) Bill No. 29 (Devolution of Powers (Airports)
This bill seeks to move the item “airports” from the exclusive legislative list to the concurrent legislative list.

Anambra has an airport and the question is whether moving it to the concurrent legislative list allows Anambra to set taxes such as the Passenger Service Charge which is an abysmal N2,000 per passenger meaning that with 200,000 avg passengers a year the passenger tax revenue of the airport will be just 400 million naira barely enough to sustain the airport. To enable the airport to be financially self-sustaining the PSC must rise by at least 500% . Other fees like aircraft landing fees, car park fees, concession fees contribute less than 10% to domestic airport revenue.

CORRECTIONAL SERVICES
Constitution (Fifth Alteration) Bill No. 31 (Devolution of Powers (Correctional Services)
This bill seeks to delete the item “prisons” from the exclusive legislative list and redesignate it as “correctional services” in the concurrent legislative list.

This is a good measure because Nigerian prisons are overcrowded and often the innocent are jailed along with the guilty. The state should endeavour to build correctional facilities particularly in remote towns. The state should use prisoners as cheap labour for things like farming, clearing of gutters..

RAILWAYS
Constitution (Fifth Alteration) Bill No. 32 (Devolution of Powers (Railways)
The bill seeks to move the item “railways” from the exclusive legislative list to the concurrent legislative list.

Anambra along with Enugu, Imo, Abia and Rivers should aim to build a rail line connecting Enugu, Awka, Onitsha, Owerri, Aba and Port Harcourt along the axis. Passengers, Containers, Fuel and Vehicles can be moved between the states easily. For passengers, rail will open up safer travel between Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Abia and Rivers

POWER
Constitution (Fifth Alteration) Bill No. 33 (Devolution of Powers) (National Grid System)
This bill seeks to delete after the word, “areas”, the words, “not covered by a national grid system” in the concurrent legislative list. This will allow states to generate, transmit and distribute electricity in areas covered by the national grid within their respective domains.

Anambra can use this law to generate constant power for industrial layouts and government facilities without the need for EEDC and the limitations of grid allocation.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA)Mr Ossy Onuko has reiterated his resolve and commitment towards transforming Awka Capital Territory to a Mega City.

The ACTDA Helmsman said this today at Unizik temporary Site road Awka, during the demolition of illegal structures standing in the way of achieving a standard road befitting a State Capital.
