The number of trophies each countries had won before them is inconsequential. You Ronaldo fans made it known when Messi had no senior international trophy. Why is it now important? We are only concerned about the number of trophies they won during their time.

If you we are to go by your point, Messi winning the World Cup, the COPA America and the Finalissima also carry similar weight. Argentina last won the COPA America in 1993 before the 2021 Messi Argentina’s win. That was 28 years difference. Argentina also last won the world cup in 1986 before 2022’s victory. That was 36 years after the 1986 win. As you can see, the country’s legacy was already dying before Messi restored it.

Besides, you guys make it look as if Portugal is a lightweight in international tournaments and is like Luxembourg before Ronaldo’s Portugal won the UEFA Euros.

This same Portugal had finished third place in the 1966 World Cup, fourth place in 2006 World Cup; semifinalist of Uefa Euro 1984,2000, 2012, runner up of Uefa Euro 2004, third place in 2017 confederation cup, and other quarter finals. They were one of the big guys without a trophy just like England. I’m glad Ronaldo set won them their first major trophy.

It’s the same way Argentina were part of the big guys without major trophy for 28 years(COPA America) to 36 years (World Cup) years before Messi set got them.

But the most important thing of this whole talk is, you can’t compare a guy that won the FIFA World Cup and two golden ball for that tournament; COPA America and two golden ball for the tournament, and MVP for Finalissima to a guy who doesn’t have the major trophy (the fifa World Cup) and who wasn’t even the best player of the two trophies Portugal won. It’s an insult.
