When did they overtake kenya - we've heard such stories since forever. More like Tanzania. Both countries are twice size of kenya. With more population. But you're still trying to get even. Lazy fools. ET's Birr unofficial exchange rate is twice the official exchange rate - that mean their GDP like Nigeria is inflated. Kazikazi: |

QuietMynd:I support the idea of adding value, actually it have been discussed in various gov platforms in Tanzania and across the continent. But sometimes Africans are too quick to generalise stuff and most Africans lack a deep knowledge of how mining works. Take like coal. If we use this notion of saying we shouldn't give away without adding value, that means most of our coal will never be extracted. You can't add much value to coal. Then you have a guy who has very little of gold. You can't build expensive refinery for a handful of gold.Uneconomical. And again, having a harmonized mining laws will help to some extent but won't solve everything. That can only work for those minerals which Africa has more than the rest of the world, the mining companies won't have options but to abide by Africa's General mining laws. But to those minerals which we have less, mining companies will just opt to go dig somewhere else. Industrialisation is not all about adding value to minerals. |

rvp20182:So should we ban exporting of raw coal? What about Kenyan companies who are buying raw coal from Tanzania to use for power generation? Sometimes Africans need to stop this thing of a blanket approach on mining industry.Adding value is good, but putting a blanket rule is stupid. Africans need to have a look at what can be added value locally, and what won't make a sense to sweat adding value to it. It's being smart which counts rather than being forceful. You can't force someone to bring his factory to a war torn shitholes. You can't force people to add value to a coal. You can't semi process everything, uraniums are mostly brought for power generation. |

I thought you went for vocation training and learnt basic of pottery. Why cant you use that coal to produce oil. Africans if they unite; will have huge market like China or India; and wont be exporting raw materials; Do you see China or India exporting raw materials. We can convert that coal to oil or produce electricity with it We are exporting coal to India and china because they are producing or manufacturing Africa has 1B plus people - and can similarly become manufacturing base - in need of coal to produce electricity Coal to Oil. "It uses a highly carbon-intensive process called Fischer-Tropsch to convert coal or natural gas into refined fuels that would otherwise more commonly be made from petroleum. The process that was developed by German scientists in the 1920s later helped fuel Hitler's war effort." Kazikazi: |

KQ already flies from Accra to Senegal without coming to Nairobi - saving your poor country - some shame. Or you want to be flying to Europe or Dubai - then fly back to Senegal. Without KQ, ET and SAA - Africans will likely have to be flow outside the continent first - then returned. One reasons why flights are expensive. So mad cow - Africa Open Skies is imperative - KQ & SAA & ET have to drive it. KQ has huge opportunity therefore to take advantage of Africa Open Skies and AFCTA. Just30: |

Shaytun:This is what happens when the government interferes everytime, it always lead to nepotism and corruption eventually failure. So, they are yet another African country that didnt bother to learn anything from the Ethiopian airlines success. No wonder Ethiopia is expected to overtake Kenya nominal GDP next year. If NPP of Ghana is as half as smart as the Ethiopian government, they will stay out of the business making decisions for their national airline they are setting up. |

KQ was big success when ET was struggling. That is nature of business. Up until 2012 - KQ was one world most profitable business. ET was struggling until somewhere in 2010. At least KQ is still flying - compared to Nigeria. TookDownYourMum: |

Kazikazi:Not everything is black and white except you are just trolling the Kenyans here 😄. Some way more advanced countries loot in their protest too, not just because of hunger. It depends on the society and the character of the citizens generally. Ghanaians and Zambians for instance are very calm people generally, same as Tanzania's. Let me use another example (unrelated to looting) which is the desire of many young Nigerians in general to travel out of Nigeria. This is mostly prevalent in Southern Nigeria. Yet by many indices, Southern Nigeria should be more comfortable or better than Northern Nigeria. The Northerners (including middlebelters), even when they go abroad are more likely to return to their homeland than the Southerners in general. This is just an example to show that not everything should be interpreted from a black/white lens. Apart from hunger (which signifies lack), greed is also a major factor here. |

rvp20182:Sasol in SA have been doing that for ages, coal to oil.it's not a new thing. Anyway,The same SA which is the world's first country to do that, still they are selling raw coal. Why? The customers want raw coal to generate electricity. Same like TZ, we sell raw coal to Kenya's cement factories like simba cement of nakuru for power generation at the plant. We can't use all coal for power generation in Tz because we have other cheaper options like hydro. You can't just have a blanket approach on these things. It's same like telling USA they shouldn't sell raw maize. Or telling Australians they shouldn't sell raw coal. It's stupid sometimes. Mining is complex. We need to act smart and find the areas which we can take advantage of and pound on them. We can't just put a one rule to fit on everything, it simply can't work. |

Diaspora migration is linked to education + unemployment that widen the horizon of people to look for opportunities outside their borders. That explain the dichotomy btw North and South Nigeria - or btw Kenya & Tanzania. Of course, in war torn areas people migrate en-mass but for peaceful countries the more jobless educated adults; the more pressure to migrate for economic reasons. Yes culturally - Ghanas, Zambias,TZ - or where it's dominated by farming Niger-Congo people - they are likely to be peacefully & settled with assured food production & really no need to fight - most sub-saharas that is - compared to supra-sahara which are drier cattle keeping hostile regions almost by default as people have fight for water, pasture, cattle and anything in btw. That is why we need Africa Free Trade Area. I have no problem if you sell coal to kenya. We will also sell you raw materials. I have a problem if you sell it to India or China. If Ghana and Ivory coast ban export of raw cocoa beans - they control 80% of all market. They will get huge pie of 250B dollar chocolate industry - compared to now. Now if you add Nigeria and small countries like Uganda - Chocolate industry will struggle to get raw beans If Kenya & countries using Mombasa tea auction ban export of unpackaged tea - where will world get Tea - India & China cannot meet home demand. India and China are huge countries - because they are united. Africa can also unite and become one huge market If only we didn't have petty jealous countries like Tanzania. Like I told you yesterday if EAC now invited Ethiopia - Arusha led body will be home to 500M people. Thankfully COVID killed Magufuli - and Ethiopia marxist communism is ending - soon this maybe become a reality. With Samia - on board - we can remove all trade and non-trade tarrifs - allow free movement - in that 500M people. And we can create more wealth. But we have to deal with FOOLS in TANZANIA - whose mission in life is to get even with Kenya. Kazikazi: |

Airline industry as whole make losses almost every year. KQ is strategic for other reasons - including bringing in forex, taxes, supporting our horticulture and of course being Africa pride. Before KQ flew from Accra to Senegal Dakar - you'd normally fly to Portugal - then come back dakar. Many countries in West Africa do that - transit through Europe. Very shameful. Just30: |

Mkenya2019:If you look at my previous posts,I said Africa need to check where they can have an advantage and use that to add value to the minerals. What I refuse is to have a blanket approach on all minerals on every country of Africa, it simply can't work that way.Mining is complex, u can't just squeeze everything in one bag and put a one rule for everything. Yes they can ban raw export of cocoa for Ghana and ivory coast. It will work. But the same rule can't work on coal or diamonds or uraniums. Tanzania isn't jeolous of kenya. We can't be jealous to someone starving and is below us.Stop crying. Face your problems head on. For how long will u rely of a fake data? It's easy to lie,but now everything have come to a dead end. You have no foreign currency, and you depend on TZ to help you out. For generation u lied about having manufacturing. Finally, I realised mostly you are just doing packaging, and that is what caused u to lack foreign currency you import stuff, packaging them and label it made in kenya.foolish. Daily you will hear manufacturers in kenya crying for foreign currency. Why should a manufacturer cry so much for a foreign currency? A real manufacturing is that which source most of raw materials locall. At least 75% of raw materials should be sourced locally. But what kenya does is simply getting almost all raw materials outside and try to manufacture in kenya. That way u will cry for foreign currency forever In that sense, forget about competing with TZ. |
