Late Deji Tinubu sponsored Simon Ekpa’s athletic career, back in the day.

He was one of the Lagos athletes who ran for Lagos and later for Nigeria at the youth competitions.

He was able to move to Finland based on support from Lagos state. The man in charge of sports in Lagos then was Deji Tinubu, Bulaba’s nephew. Ekpa ran under his tutelage.
