Why produce milk?

By definition, it’s a nutrient-rich fluid that female mammals produce to feed their young.
The most commonly consumed types come from cows, sheep and goats.
Western countries drink cow’s milk most frequently.
Milk has been enjoyed throughout the world for thousands of years.


Dairy farming opportunities in Nigeria.

Current milk production does not meet the market demand of 1.45 billion litres per annum. And this is as a result of the local breed of cattle with low milk yielding capacity, grazing and poor management of the cattle herd by herders who 95percent owners of the total cattle in Nigeria.


The dairy industry remain untapped in Nigeria due to the large deficit of milk demand.
The industry will thrive and grow with proper management and good breeding service through research.

How about goat for dairy purpose

Dairy farming is not just for producing milk alone, but also butter, and (maybe) cheese.
Butter (healthy fat) is very very expensive in Nigeria because they're imported, and they're of low quality too.
We need to start producing butter in Nigeria (not margarine 🙄).
It is essential.

The average Nigerian believes we can’t produce this things well for them so they rather import, one of the reason people don’t invest. Making butter can be a house hold thing just like in India where every home owns a cow and they produce this things locally.

They even make their own healthier version of (clarified) butter called ghee, which they use in their home cooking.
These things are really not hard to produce.

We need to embrace home made production and not segregate any form of business. In Nigeria everybody believes the pastoralists owns the cattle line and don’t want to invest in cattle rearing thereby defeating research and growth of our indegenious breeds. We don’t have the capacity to supply the total number of milk volume required. Many Nigerians have not tasted raw milk, what we know is the powdered milk. It’s sad that a country of about 200million people don’t know how to sustain themselves but rather continue to depend. Population is a blessing and not a curse and Nigeria should show the world this.
