The latest from Steve Hanke

#GhanaWatch: Under Pres. Akufo-Addo, economic freedom has deteriorated. As a result, GDP per capita growth has crashed. Ghana should turn to the Singapore Strategy (stable money, NO FOREIGN AID, protection of private property & a small efficient govt) instead of the IMF.

Find kenya in this list of shame

Did you really understand what Dr Ndii is saying there or the English is too much for your puny brain.
He is saying what I have been saying.
That there was cash crunch...as maturities for debt had bunched up...
That is temporary problem.
Of course Kenya has to get out of spending 60% of revenue in debt servicing.
We have to go back to below 33%

Again nobody denies kenya macro-economics are not SOUND.

Ruto is the president for exactly that reason - he told kenyans - we were going bankrupt like GHANA - unless we change.

So we are dealing with WELL KNOWN PROBLEM - and we have solution for it - that excludes defaulting like Ghana morons.

That kind of anti-intellectualism is either borne out of total madness or drug abuse or poor education.

Why shouldn't I - you think he has personal beef with Ghana or Nigeria?

Again I dont use one story - It combination of many things that show Nigeria is SICK.

I asked you to bring debt servicing ratio? You went MIA

You rather engage in personal attack against an illustrious proffesor trying to help your realize the depth of the hole.

Stop being delusional. Nigeria must confront its problem.

We dont hate Nigeria. But it's a ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Debt servicing ratio to revenue has been 120% since January 2022 until now and we just borrowed all through to share federal allocations worth over 20 Billion dollars throughout the year to states and local Governments. Nigeria also built several infrastructures and bought more army equipments same year altogether worth billions of dollars.
Yet the increase in our public debt in 2022 was not even up to 10 Billion dollars ( both local and external). That's the magic Nigeria somehow performed in the economics of rvp2018 😄.

If you believe that, you'll believe anything and no need going at it with you further.

Please do the research for us. This Nigerian magic must be exposed.

FYI our debt servicing ratio to revenue for the entire year on average closed at 80% but we are not on our knees, so maybe you can help us with the explanation grin.

But I'll give you some expo though.

Nigerian FIRS revenue in 2022 was 10.1 trillion naira. However, we have that:

Nigeria’s debt service to revenue ratio is reported as 80.7% according to the information contained in the 2023 Budget presentation made by the Minister of Finance.

The report reveals a total debt service of N5.2 trillion in the first 11 months of 2022 out of a total revenue of N6.49 trillion.

So it's simple to see why we are not on our knees. The revenue report here says we made 6.49 trillion naira at the federal level while the FIRS collected 10.1 trillion naira. Our total debt servicing was 5.2 trillion naira.

Put one and two together, you get the answer to the puzzle.

Wow shocked shocked shocked shocked shocked The Kenyan shilling, which has lost nearly 30% of its value since late 2020, is expected to reach 200 versus the US dollar by the end of the year, making it one of the worst currencies in the world. Ruto needs to get up and do action.

The guy thinks he knows Nigeria. He doesn't know for most parts of 2022, Nigeria from Federal level allocated on average over 700 Billion naira monthly (over 1.7 Billion dollars) to states and Local Government without NNPC remittances to CBN and Government for the most part.

He would have to figure all of that first.

Anything above 33% mean you're on your knees.
Therefore 80 percent or 120 percent isnt going to help Nigeria.
What we need to know is how Nigeria is able to finance salaries, recurrent expenditure and development if any.
They are either borrowing more and more
Or they arent doing any development - which is likely the case - as Nigeria the Zoo has rotten without any roads being maintained or built
Also despite sky high inflation - salaries have not been raised.
We saw lecturers last year strike for almost a year - with universities closed.

In short Nigeria is a ZOO precisely because it uses 80-120 percent of it's revenue to pay debt leaving it with nothing for social, infrastracture or any investment - no electricity, poverty, sky high inflation, millions of kids outside schools, kidnapping. nothing works.

Kenya has to avoiding getting there - and go back to below 33% debt servicing ratio - like we have always been - except for last few years.

And kenya will be back healthy in 2025 - we have tough 2024 - then by 2025 our macro-economics will be very solid - we will have brought debt to gdp to 55%; we will have budget surplus on recurrent expenditure,

we will be spending 33% on debt; 33% on development; 33% on salaries, operation & maintenances.

That is how an individual or company or a country is supposed to run 1/3 spend on debt, 1/3 to O&M, 1/3 on investment.

Nigeria Airways is still bankrupt - since 1980s or 1970s - what give you the nerve to speak about airlines? The entire airline industry made losses - as it yet to recover from covid-19 - so KQ is in good company.

Meanwhile have you allowed airlines to take our their dollars from Nigeria?

Kenya - Uhuru regime dropped the ball completely - when Kibaki handed him a very solid macro-economics. Now Ruto job is to clean up the mess. Bring down debt servicing to below 33%; Bring down debt to gdp to below 55%. All these will be achieved in 2024/2025.
