The only reason why Haaland "May" not win it this season is because Messi won the world cup.

He's secured the golden boot in England and the European golden shoe with lots of games to spare. He'll most likely be the UCL top scorer too.

If City should go on to win the league and may be the UCL, then the trend of being consistent on the ballondor list will not hold water for the Norwegian Cyborg.

As a Messi fan, I want Messi to win but if he doesn't then Haaland should take it.

As things stand, Haaland is the front-runner for this year's Ballon D'or. Top 3 is a foregone conclusion at this point, and the only thing standing in his way is Messi's World Cup heroics whose euphoria has died down over the last few months. But if City complete a league-CL double, then not even Messi winning the World Cup will stop him from clinching the Golden Ball.

Nothing is set but Haaland will definitely fancy his chances.
