There's also a lady here in Abuja I see her frequently on fly over seated with her three kids begging. Am sure she must've been assisted by different people but won't just quit begging

thats what often happens when you give free money to beggars... they get use to it and turn their begging into a profession.

There is this particular woman in my area that drags her little children under sun begging, I usually don’t give beggars money (I can’t have someone using drugs with my money) so i took her to nearby food store, we met the shop owner; expression on the industrious igbo man’s face showed he knew her but he kept mute and took my order.

After buying food stuff of about 4k for this woman, you won’t believe she opened her mouth to say, i would need this (pointing) and that. I was shocked like, you think i am your family member. I just signaled to the man to cost and gave it to her that, that is all she gets.

When she left, the man started talking that is not her fault; she was there just two days before with another man who bought her a month worth of food stuff, he feels she sells it cuz you see her every single day begging.

Well now i no longer give beggars anything. Instead i favor the people with legit hustle with “keep the change”. I found out that they appreciate 100 times more than these people you see begging.

Once i get into government, all these women dragging children on the streets begging. Would be persecuted, have those innocent children taken away. What sort of future, are you setting the child up for. It is evil to say the least.

Giving beggars money is encouraging them to continue. Rather find small businesses you can support and help to grow.

The problem also is that Nigerians are almost beggars. They're begging God for one thing or the other and believe that if they give the beggars, God will give them what they're asking for. Unfortunately life does not work like that. You're not playing Baba ijebu with God and grace

Those kids aren't hers.Most times they rent them from orphanages and baby factories,buy the same clothes and share the proceeds.

Those babies are mostly singletons wearing matching clothes.

Lol. I had a similar but smaller experience recently. Saw this little girl, about 6 or so, looking dirty standing in front of a snack store and asking for ice cream. My heart was so broken for her. I went inside the store got her ice cream and some other snacks and JUNKS. One of the staff just started commenting she doesn't know what's wrong with the girl, that she had been there all day and people have been buying her snacks. That someone got her snacks worth 500 not long ago. Well, I felt scammed oo, especially since I'm a broke student😅 but i just went ahead with the purchase.

I called her to the side and tried to ask questions about what she was doing there and why she wasn't in school. She didn't give me much coherent answers but I deduced that she had no parents but came with 2 brothers who were hiding at another corner waiting to share her loot. Lol. I ended up just giving her the snacks plus a little cash. Though I was wondering if there was something better or lasting I could do for her rather than buying unhealthy food that won't last. It also crossed my mind that their parents could have sent them to do that instead of taking them to school.

Lol, I've met a man once use fake hospital report to beg... I confronted him once before discovering it's fake

Next time I saw him begging, I just called him to the window of the bus I was in, and whispered to him to leave that side before I expose him, we both smiled, he waved at me and moved to another location

There's an able-bodied young man at Iyana-Ipaja who does the same thing... He's always asking for tfare and because he looks good, well fed with even bigger muscles than me, you'll give him, never thinking he's a beggar... Only for him to accost you the next day, asking for the same tfare

What of those GNLD or whatever marketers who always don't have transport fare and will lap inside the bus, them start tapping you to help them complete their tfare... These ones are almost always heading towards Yaba

Some of them have taken it as a profession, and make more money than even those who hustle...it's high time people stop giving to those professional beggars

This can't work though. The same Nigerians you're doing it for will still come out en masse to criticize you for being "heartless" and "wicked" and so on
