nairalanda1:they should make prepaid meter compulsory to everyone, so if u don't pay u don't get light. Although some Nigerians have criminal mentality, they would still find a way to by pass |

How come Nigeria is supplying power to Togo, Benin, and Niger and we don't have enough electricity to run our economy? I hope Nigeria is not under a spell. I mean where in this world would a country take care of the need of another country without sorting out its own needs? |

Ironi:Ghanians are not paying for the power they get from us either. Oga, Ghana is just as broke as we are. The fact is, most African nations, except probably South Africa and the North African nations (and even then countries like Tunisia have their young doing japa well well)...are broke. I just dey laugh anytime I hear Nigerians praising Ghana. Ghana that has same issues like we do. Even power, they are stricter about it, than we are. At the end of the day, you guys want good power supply, you better pay for it. This GSM we are using was made possible by government allowing them GSM companies to exploit us well well. For profit, which was reinvested into our telco sector. |

Ironi:They do, or at least the gas to supply power (25% of the gas used for power comes from us vide the West African gas pipeline.). |

Soulvein:Go take a good look at the Niger River, would you rather Niger build their own dams on the Niger River ?? Nigeria would go begging Niger not to do that. I believe you sell hydro to Niger for a reason . Go find out why Nigeria supplies hydro to Niger . |

1.4 trn naira where is the constant electricity light that will motivate nigerians to pay... nigerians spend a lot on their generators inorder to get electricity light in their home and bussinesses...and nigeria still pay NEPA darkness electricity bill... and you are complaining of 1.4 trn naira debt... where is the constant electricity light you provide for nigerians |

adenigga:This is a very disorganized report. How can Benin, Niger Republic, Togo owe DisCos money? Nigerians don't owe DisCos alone but NESI players (GenCos, TCN and DisCos) while other neighbouring countries connected to our Grid can only owe TCN and GenCos but not DisCos! |

The problem with DISCOS is that they want to make their profit in a short time if not they should have installed prepaid meters in every home and include the cost in the electricity payment on gradual basis |

Ever8090:Are u writing this when overwhelmed by emotion or are u really serious? How in earth can u solve power problems in 2 months? Power isn't like building roads and even roads u need a lot of Engineering works. In Power u need more power generation plants, more electrical towers to convey the energy and infrastructure to evacuate the power and distribute the energy. So how can u do the civil and electrical works including importation of machineries and equipment to solve the problems in the 2 months u suggested? These are the kind of ridiculous opinions that put Libya, Algeria, Syria, Egypt and Tunisia where they're today, a state of regrets. You can't force Govt to do impossible. Nigeria has the cheapest electricity in the world and demanding the right pay from citizens is another issue, you can't get everything in subsidy and expect it to get better.... |

ArewaNorth:oga, don't let me insult you ooo...if you are a politician or in any way benefiting form the animalistic and demonic leadership we are experiencing, just say it and shut up...you mean power can not be archived after more than 50 years of our existence or what?.. all the countries you mentioned as been in a mess has far better power more than Nigeria that is not in a mess acording to you. What are you even saying sef?... people won't get up to 2 hours of electricity in a month and they confront them with ridiculous estimated bill and you expect them to be happy about it ? It is simple, the goverment should provide constant power and distribute prepaid M and tackle the issue of power theft or bypass . We contribute money to buy transformer, contribute money to fix bad transfomer you are here talking nonsense |

juvewalex:The thing is that Nigeria electricity issue is transmission. Nigeria generate enough power that can serve the whole country in a decade but they don't have the infrastructures to transmit all of it. Cuz after generating, you must still transmit it to the consumers. That's why they are now selling to neighbouring countries that have the infrastructures to transmit cuz those countries can't generate enough power that can serve them. But if Nigeria can look into the transmission aspect and put better infrastructures in place, Nigeria will have constant light. Our problem is not being able to transmit the large amount of power that the country generates. |

Franking:I put your query to ChatGPT Litmus: Why does Nigeria supply Benin Republic, Togo and Ghana electricity ChatGPT: Nigeria supplies electricity to neighboring countries such as Benin Republic, Togo, and Ghana because it has a surplus of electricity production compared to its domestic demand. Nigeria generates electricity mainly from natural gas, hydropower, and coal, and has the potential to generate even more from renewable sources such as solar and wind. However, Nigeria's domestic electricity supply infrastructure is still inadequate and unreliable, leading to frequent power outages and load shedding. Therefore, exporting electricity to neighboring countries helps Nigeria earn revenue from its surplus power and improve regional energy security. It also helps build diplomatic and economic ties with neighboring countries. Additionally, the West African Power Pool (WAPP), a regional power integration initiative, aims to increase access to reliable and affordable electricity across West Africa. Nigeria is a major player in WAPP and contributes to the pool of electricity available for cross-border trade. Litmus: Is Nigeria also forced to provide neighbouring countries with electricity to prevent them damming river Niger up stream? ChatGPT: There is no evidence to suggest that Nigeria is forced to provide neighboring countries with electricity to prevent them from damming the River Niger upstream. However, the construction of dams on the River Niger by upstream countries such as Mali and Guinea can potentially affect the flow of the river downstream, including Nigeria. The River Niger is a major source of water for Nigeria and supports a range of economic activities such as agriculture, transportation, and power generation. Therefore, Nigeria has been involved in discussions and negotiations with upstream countries to ensure that any plans for dam construction are carried out in a way that minimizes negative impacts on downstream countries. Nigeria has also been involved in the development of the Niger Basin Authority, a regional organization that aims to promote cooperation and integrated management of water resources in the Niger Basin. Through this organization, Nigeria and other member countries work together to ensure sustainable use of the river's resources and minimize potential conflicts over water allocation. |

Ever8090:1 + 1 = 2. If you like, bring out the largest number of protesters and rioters to demand for 24hr supply, as long as the issues bedeviling the sector are left unresolved such as the underpricing of the power sold to consumers, it won't change a thing. The protesters can't make 1 + 1=3 |
