Although I am from Edo state but I have come to love the way igbos do there business. No wonder they are the most successful tribe in Nigeria business wise .

I came to this conclusion after my encounter with my yoruba brothers when it comes to business. On many occasions I have been betrayed by the yorubas in business transaction . This makes me feel is in there dna to bridge agreement. I wanna restrict this write up to the event of today. I was in my office when this two yorubas guys approached me to know if I have a particular car they are looking for . I didn't have it so I decided to convey them to another yoruba car dealer that has it .As usual I told the dealer to add my commision since my client is not settling me based on his budget and I don't wanna load the car . Loading it might discourage the buyer. He accepted and we concluded our talk. The buyer decided to go visit the person who is offering him money to pay for the car .....Immediately the buyer left ...the person that brought him to my office went straight to the dealers office...to discuss with him ...immediately he came out . He assured me that the moment the buyer called , that he will notify me so that can be there to collect my settlement. With this assurance , I dropped him.at his office and left ..

45 mins later , my instinct asked me to go visit the dealer to ask how far ...behold what I saw...They are signing sales agreement . They were surprise to see me ..They look as if they saw ghost.....They started telling me that they searched for me but could find me...I laughed cos my I am always in the office...moreover my phone is reachable. At the end I called one if our executives to witness the act...his intervention made them to give me my settlement.

Compare this incident to many igbos I have dealt with . Many of them have not even seen my face . The moment I send a client to them and tell them.my cut ...After the deal...they will ask for my number and send me all my money . Sometimes ..I might not even know when they completed the deal but they will be the first to remind me about sending my account .

All I can say is thank you my igbo brothers ...the difference is clear when it comes to business .

To be honest with you it wasn't much ...even the car dealer union member I reported the matter to was angry about what happened ...he wanted to report it to the meeting so that they car dealer will be fined ...After do.much pleaded I decided he should forgive the car dealer . Betrayal of trust is something I don't like ...I have done many deals with so many nairalanders ...some of them.have not even met me in person ..They will.say ..Mr here is my account ...kindly do the needful when you are through . Integrity is the key to success in life ...

Oba gha to kpere, otenmwen no mose! Igbo boy born and bred in The Great Benin Kingdom. The way we live our lives are way more advanced and I hope other people who want to evolve will copy us and enjoy the benefits. It Pays to be a person of integrity and even though there are bad people in every tribe, B-side included, its rampant in the South West, and even if you were Yoruba, you would still be treated the same way and this I have seen happen in my current City of abode(Ibadan)

A Bini man is responsible for the progress of another Bini man as a brother, like wise an Igbo but in my almost 13 years of residence in Yoruba land, this I have not seen. But I must confess that I have encountered Yorubas who are so good to a fault that you wouldn't believe they were Yorubas after all the bad things you've heard about Yorubas.

The new nigeria is already taking shape and people who are tribalistically bigoted cannot survive in IT. We will get there. GOD BLESS EVERY TRUE NIGERIAN, AMEN.

Heavenlybang, nurey, Diportivo, there you have it. It’s one of the many reasons why cars are so so expensive in Nigeria. Prearranged agreement to have cuts for long chain connections of car agents and dealers. This will naturally mean everybody who has a link in this chain has an interest in it thereof and this will in-turn drive the price up considerably. I’m not concerned with your counter claims or argument but this right here is part of what gets an average Nigerian prospective car buyer frustrated.

You are very correct.

Op is trying to claim saint while he is part and parcel of raising price of autos.

Just last 2 week a particular vehicle was tagged at 10.6 by dubious agent, after contacting the owner secretly we learned that the actual price of the said car was 7.5m.

Imagine the huge price difference 3.1m

A whopping 3.1m and one is here crying foul! Wickedness in high places.

Not sure what your point is. Business is business, middlemen and agents exist in every part of the world.

It's up to a buyer to do due diligence on market prices.

I don't know where you are trying to arrive with your point... it is totally baseless. Business is business and should be treated as such. If the OP didn't take the buyers to the other seller, would they have known that the vehicle they are looking out to buy was there and available. He is fully entitled to his commission!

I believe the OP's cut/commission is very fair in this deal. Reason why he trusted the business into the hands of his colleague. If he had a large percentage in this car, he wouldn't even allow the original owner to interfer.

Let me stated clearly that there are some ways of getting your cut with respect to sale of vehicle . First I don't run charity organisation . I pay for rent and bills ...I pay dues to the car association.. it will be unfair to claim the activities of some of them is what makes car go up . You may decide to load the car but I don't do that cos it will discourage the buyer.....whenever I see that the buyers budget is very small but can meet the carbowner demand , I will quickly approach the car owner and say pls keep some money for me as settlement cos this client money can only meet your target...For instance the car wr bought yesterday was tiny light camry ...very clean first body ..the owner said last price is 1.2m ..while our client has 1.150m ...we begged untill the dealer accepted the 1.180m ...out if it he dropped 30k as our settlement ...as you can see I didn't even make anything from the client cos you can't continue to beat a dead horse ...

My happiness is how my clients get satisfaction at the end of every transaction. I am not making excuses for greedy dealers ...in life everybody cannot behave same way ...but it will be unfair to see every dealer in same light . Like I always say ..car owners are even greedy this days ..they now know the price if car in the market ...you can't force them to sell to you . If you don't like the offer ...you simply move on ....the quality of car determine the price ..most of us are ignorant of this fact...two cars might be standing infront of you ...they are same make but different price .
