Extortion By FRSC Officers by Marcus08(op): 6:21pm On Jun 04, 2023
Earlier this afternoon I was accosted by a group of FRSC officers stationed in FCT area 11 who used their vehicle to physically obstruct mine, and nearly caused multiple collisions. Their charge was that I made an illegal U-turn.

When I challenged them to prove that the U-turn was illegal, they stated that as there was no sign permitting U-turns at that junction, it was illegal to make a U-turn. When I tried to point out the inconsistencies in their claims, they seized my drivers license, and stated I would only be permitted to leave if I paid a fine in cash.

These rogue officers were all wearing body cameras, but switched them off or covered them when they demanded I pay 20,000 NGN in cash.

Ultimately as I felt intimidated and threatened by their menacing manner, I had no choice but to pay the 20,000 NGN they insisted on me paying, in cash.

As I made to leave the scene, they noticed I had taken photos of their vehicle and again used their pickup to physically cut me off, again nearly causing an accident. They demanded I delete the photos, claiming it was illegal to take photos of them, which is obviously false.

I pretended to delete the photos, and they let me leave with a warning.

I am posting these photos to create a record of this extortion by this uncouth, unprofessional, bunch of thieving officials.

With any luck, they will get what they deserve, one way or the other.
