The former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has stated that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government should be grateful for a second chance to redeem themselves of what he described as their past misdeeds against Nigerians.

Wike, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made this known in a live media chat on Tuesday at the state capital, Port Harcourt, where he expressed his views on the zoning policies of the current administration.

The former governor faulted his party’s reliance “on the numbers” and for failing to follow its zoning principle which he said cost them the February 25 presidential election and gave the APC the chance to emerge victorious.

“APC should be jubilating that God has given them an opportunity at the cost of PDP. God gave APC the opportunity to repent from the sins they committed against Nigerians,” Wike said.

Lauding President Bola Tinubu’s emergence in line with the laid-down zoning formula, Wike debunked claims that the President had a “Muslim agenda” in his choice of vice-president, insisting these were machinations and “accusations of lazy politicians”.

Tinubu and his deputy, Kashim Shettima, amid criticism of their same-faith ticket, were declared the winners of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Sounding a note of warning to critics in the APC to show support for the President and not stifle his administration, Wike underscored that Nigerians would be the beneficiaries.

“God gave them this opportunity now and they want to bungle it again by bringing in crisis,” he said.

“If Mr President doesn’t have a smooth administration, at the end of the day, who suffers? Is it not Nigerians? Let us believe that we are all one, let us give everyone a sense of belonging.”

He was/is principled when he said the power must return to the south if not the election could have been work over for atiku. He was smart because even though he prefer Peter Obi but he knew he will be rob of his mandate by power that be, that's why he supported and rig for Tinubu. One thing you can never take away from Wike is his cunning ability to kiss asss in order to get into position or power.

Did it with Amaechi, did it with Patience Jonathan and now doing it with Tinubu.

Wike nor get levels again. Too much talk and lack of integrity nor good. Many believed he was fighting for the south till he showed his left hand. Man is just looking for an appointment cos he can't stay without govt patronage.

I had resolved since last week not to debate about Tinubu or PitObi anymore but it’s tough when one reads some stuff here.

Anyway, for me, elections are over. The losers are in court. The current president is BAT - at least for now till if the courts rule otherwise.

The concern for us all for now is how the man in the saddle can do well for the betterment of everyone.

For those who still are in elections and criticism mode, please be objective, be fair and be truthful in your criticisms.

If Tinubu performs creditably, encourage him. If he performs poorly, criticize him objectively.

Whether we believe it or it, he is now the captain of the Nigerian ship, if he sails the ship well, it is to Nigeria and Nigerians' advantage. But if he sinks the ship, we will all sink too. So why not encourage him rather applying our energies to pulling him down.
