Brendaniel:The appellation "Lagos Airport" does not necessarily locate the airport within the boundary of the former federal capital territory. London Gatwick for instance is about 30 miles from the city of London, but the airport is called London Gatwick because it serves London. Lagos Airport could have been located in Sango-Ota, it would still be called Lagos Airport because it serves Lagos. |

Volksfuhrer:Oga, my point here is Ikeja was already mapped out as part of Lagos as at when the airport was been built in 1940s, which counters their claim that Ikeja was not part of Lagos till 1976, the airport was only used to illustrate and if anyone is to counter my claim he should come up with an article or document to prove otherwise and I will do the same... |

Brendaniel:And that is why I have given you the history lesson Lagos Colony was only the Island and parts of the Mainland Ikeja all the way to Oyo were Lagos Protectorate and later on it became known a as Western Region Ikeja Ikorodu Epe and Badagry were all part of the Western Region under Awolowo in the first republic.Awolowo developed the Industrial park at Ikeja Lagos The capital city had a Minister under the Federal government just like Abuja today. That did not include any of Badagry,Epe,Ikorodu or Ikeja .which were added to "Lagos" the Federal capital when Lagos state was created in 1967 One of the Ministers of Lagos was the late YarAdua 's father So you see the relevance and need for the history lesson Lagos in ,1898 was Colony of Lagos and Protectorate of Lagos The part know. As Colony was the Federa l capital from 1914 after amalgamation till 1991 and The Protectorate of Lagos was later known as the Western Region till 1967 when Badagry,Ikeja,Epe and Ikorodu were excised and merged with the Federal capital to create Lagos State You been to grasp these elementary facts and stop running your mouth |

Gajagojo:The people I mentioned were talking about Lagos in 1976 that Ikeja was not part of Lagos till 1976 and that was my focus and I explained and you countered my claim with history of 1800's and protectorate and I said good and I am asking you now, which state was Ikeja under in 1974 at least 2 years before 1976? |
| Re: 1888 Census Of Lagos Colony Showing The Indigenous People Of Lagos by Heffalump(m): 8:15pm On Jun 11, 2023 |
Mynd44:From the Census report, it also shows that the Nupes and Hausas also have origin in Lagos and can claim ancestral heritage to Lagos. The moment other settlers came early to co-habit with the original settlers of Lagos, and both settled seamlessly like the ones from Benin Republic and Togo, one is safe to say that Lagos does not belong to Yoruba alone. |
| Re: 1888 Census Of Lagos Colony Showing The Indigenous People Of Lagos by Gajagojo: 8:19pm On Jun 11, 2023 |
Brendaniel:So why did you mention me alongside them? Are you normal? I was talking to someone else and you quoted me out of the blue . I responded to educate you and here you are talking rubbish? |
| Re: 1888 Census Of Lagos Colony Showing The Indigenous People Of Lagos by Creeper(op): 8:23pm On Jun 11, 2023 |
Heffalump:The Nupes and Hausas were slaves and warriors. Slaves can’t claim ownership - same is applicable to warriors who’re part of the army of a Yoruba subgroup. Anyway, those amongst them who remained in the place have been Yorubanised and they’re Yoruba today. |
| Re: 1888 Census Of Lagos Colony Showing The Indigenous People Of Lagos by Gajagojo: 8:36pm On Jun 11, 2023 |
Volksfuhrer:Actually At that time Lagos Protectorate was the name of the whole of what we call the SW.today including Badagry,Epe,Ikeja and Ikorodu except Lagos Colony. It later became known as the Western Region Lagos Colony was the city of Lagos The former federal capital city. |

Christistruth03:The area called Western Region was named in 1939 . Previously it was the Protectorate of Lagos from 1897 till 1906 when it was merged with the Eastern provinces to form the Protectorate of Southern Nigeria |

Gajagojo:That Lagos was existing before it was created as a state in 1976, the status was only changed to make it a state having a governor and still remain FCT at the same time, before then it was only FCT and I gave a breakdown on how it was partitioned to be governed both as FCT and state... |
| Re: 1888 Census Of Lagos Colony Showing The Indigenous People Of Lagos by Gajagojo: 8:52pm On Jun 11, 2023 |
Brendaniel:did I say that? Once again What are you correcting? I don't think you are normal Where did I say anything about 1976? This thread is about census in 1888 and that is what I addressed. I was not talking to you so where do you get me involved in talking about 1976? The terminology FCT was never used in relation to Lagos That was. NEVER used with Lagos city It was the Federal capital full stop. Nothing like FCT That term was used only with Abuja |
| Re: 1888 Census Of Lagos Colony Showing The Indigenous People Of Lagos by Brendaniel: 9:19pm On Jun 11, 2023 |
Gajagojo:Your statement is attached below, you said Lagos was created in 1967, firstly your date was incorrect, it is 1976, secondly Lagos had been existing before 1976 which ever way you are wrong, I was not here for 1888 census, I was here to counter false claims...

| Re: 1888 Census Of Lagos Colony Showing The Indigenous People Of Lagos by Gajagojo: 9:29pm On Jun 11, 2023 |
Brendaniel:I choose my words with precision Are you literate? I said Lagos State Not Lagos I very rarely use the word Lagos without clarification Lagos state was created by General Gowon on May 27 1967 along with 11 other states following a stalemate with Ojukwu You are talking very ignorantly and lying without shame This thread is about 1888, Lagos state did not exist at that time it was created in 1967 |
| Re: 1888 Census Of Lagos Colony Showing The Indigenous People Of Lagos by Brendaniel: 9:38pm On Jun 11, 2023 |
Gajagojo:Good, now you are giving information that corresponds with our discussion but the last line is incorrect... |

| Re: 1888 Census Of Lagos Colony Showing The Indigenous People Of Lagos by Ogene001: 9:59pm On Jun 11, 2023 |
Gajagojo:The whole of old Eastern region used to be under Onitsha and Owerri provinces. Does it make someone from Ebonyi or cross River indegenous to Onitsha? We are talking indegenous Lagos people. Being part if old Lagos protectorate doesn't make you Lagos indegenous person |
| Re: 1888 Census Of Lagos Colony Showing The Indigenous People Of Lagos by Gajagojo: 10:02pm On Jun 11, 2023 |
Brendaniel:You mentioned me Nothing wrong with that That is what the forum is for But you accused me of what I did not say and insist instead of correcting yourself despite oseveral corrections That makes you a nuisance and a liar I said Lagos state did not exist in 1888 when the census was done. It was created in 1967 These is an irrefutable fact So why are you lying about 1976 and arguing foolishly |
| Re: 1888 Census Of Lagos Colony Showing The Indigenous People Of Lagos by Brendaniel: 10:05pm On Jun 11, 2023 |

| Re: 1888 Census Of Lagos Colony Showing The Indigenous People Of Lagos by Gajagojo: 10:06pm On Jun 11, 2023 |
Ogene001:What do you mean by Eastern Region? Be specific what states today would that be and what dates? I don't know what you mean by LAGOS can you be more precise in your language to avoid misunderstanding |
| Re: 1888 Census Of Lagos Colony Showing The Indigenous People Of Lagos by Gajagojo: 10:12pm On Jun 11, 2023 |
Brendaniel:What is my business with your claim? You quoted me out of the blue to talk rubbish that was irrelevant to the quote claiming you are correcting me What are you correcting? I am not interested in your confused rants. I addressed the census of 1888 to relate it to today to make a simple. point Whatever the 1888 census is about It was not for Lagos state as we know it now They are different things |
