Russia wants to conquer and control Ukraine as a vassal state. If Ukraine capulates, in the next 5 to 10 years, Belarus and Ukraine would be integrated with Russia.
Would Western alliance allow Russia to succed? Would Ukrainians give up? Would NATO admit Ukraine with conditions. If NATO admits Ukraine, it means US would cover Ukraine with nuclear weapons. Time shall tell.

Georgia is not Ukraine. Population of Georgia is less than 4M. Ukraine is more than 40M. Ukraine has larger land mass compared to Georgia. Ukraine has western support in all ramifications. Georgia did not have such support. With all these Russia was just able to annex parts of GEORGIA. Diplomatic relationship between Georgia and Russia was severed. Embassies were closed.
