Tinubu finally doing what some of us have always advocate; There is ray of hope for the Zoo. Nigeria passed legislation that’s expected to set off the biggest shakeup of the West African nation’s chronically inadequate power industry in almost two decades. The reforms allow the 36 state governments in Africa’s largest economy – rather than just the federal administration – to license and regulate electricity markets within their territories. Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, who took office two weeks ago, signed the law on Friday. https://www.moneyweb.co.za/news/africa/nigeria-power-reform-heralds-biggest-sector-shakeup-in-20-years/ |

Anyone struggling against a Zoo like Nigeria is not serious. Almost everything I have adviced Nigeria to do - Tinubu is doing it now. I couldnt be happier for Nigeria. Finally you get a leadership. Kenya even at it worst always has had great leadership. Folks in Kenya are arguing about marginal utility stuff - not common sense stuff like Nigeria. Do common sense reforms. QuietMynd: |

Except the punitive action if students dont repay loans. How will they repay when they arent assured of jobs. Just charge them reasonable interest and penalties. Threatening mostly poor Kids with jail if they dont repay loans is crazy and Zoolike. Student loans and mix of scholarship is way to go. Student loans should attract low interest - in kenya 4% - and penalties - but you cannot jail unemployed graduates now? Just40: |

Mkenya2019:Nigeria has nothing to learn from Kenyans. There's nothing Tinubu is doing that Nigerians have not discussed to death. That's why some of us, even here on this thread, always had curses and harsh words for that foolish old man who calls himself Buhari. Kenya on the other hand needs to heed our advice to cut down on debts like we've advised for years. It's a good thing Ruto is fighting hard to do just that though he is finding it difficult. Remember when you used to argue with me that debt is good for Kenya. Now you are praising Ruro for trying to cut it down. If anything Ruto is doing what I advised. ![]() |

You cheered Buhari disastrous regime and his policies. You're a cartoon. I dont delete my threads - look for them - you know my monikers here. There is absolutely no problem borrowing - there is a problem overborrowing. If you check my threads - I always said gov debt repayment should not exceed 1/3. Loans - yes at some point I read as low middle income we could do upto 70% - but obviously that require really long term and low interest. I am now convinced we should do 55% - slightly above 50% that poor countries to - borrowing to GDP. Kenya has a debt problem. Nigeria has problems almost everywhere. Admit it like Tinubu and get some respect. If you use the search function - after memory failure or dementia - you will see almost everything Tinubu is doing I have always advocated for - float naira - end stupid subsidies - allow states to fix electricity - end stupid import substution policies etc In short - empower the ever resourceful Nigerians - and they will unleash economic growth never seen before. Give them electricity, macro-ecoomic stability, peace and stability - and up north give them education and security. Nigeria in few years will kick ar.se - south need electricity as priority - north need education as imperative. Those are foundations. Obaaderemi2: |

Mkenya2019:The punitive action is there for those who will make up their minds that they won't pay back and those who don't need it but will still go for it. It is highly likely that after 2 years of graduation, a person will have something gainful doing. |

Mkenya2019:Buhari's biggest critic here was me. As far back as 2015 when he started surrounding himself with northerners and later hoarded Dollars and banned importation of essential goods I lost faith in him. There's nothing Tinubu is doing now that Nigerians have not asked for. In fact he hasn't touched many other things we want. That's why I've refrained from praising him for now. Unlike you I'm cautious when it comes to trusting politicians. You are not experienced. I said it categorically here that Uhuru's borrowings were crazy. You supported him and said it was alright because you didn't have a revenue problem. I'm sure there are others here who remember that your line. I'm surprised you are against him now and applauding what Ruto is trying to do- reduce borrowing. You are a joke. |

Of all the countries in sub-Saharan Africa to be optimistic about, the most promising is Kenya . Economic and political forces are converging to put the continent’s seventh-largest nation in a relatively favorable position. https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/energy/2023/06/14/kenya-is-poised-to-become-the-singapore-of-africa/d92f9be2-0a6a-11ee-8132-a84600f3bb9b_story.html |

We have records here. We just need to search and see what someone posted. Been posting since 2017/2018? or 2016 Uhuru inherited debt to GDP of about 40% - so borrowing was fine until somewhere in 2019 - when we started hitting 60% And we started saying - stop - refinance the debt - and try to sell gov assets to finance the budget. These are well documented. Obaaderemi2: |

If we go back to records here - we shall see you cheering Buhari for his security and anti-graft credentials - we will see you oppose ending fuel susbidy - we will see you oppose floating of naira - we will see you oppose states having stake on solving electricity crisis - you literally oppose anything that Buhari opposed. You've only turned around because Tinubu is Yoruba like you otherwise principally you're a Buhari goat herder. Obaaderemi2: |

You're afraid of your own past? Uhuru did well in his first term and was rewarded with a second term. He messed up in 2nd term and is now out there crying with Raila. That is how dynamic politics are. But if they are some golden rules of debt - that I have said from day one - 30% debt servicing - when you start exceeding - youre in trouble 50% debt to GDP - 70% for middle income countries. Those I have always talked about. As for Nigeria - I am one here who have been parotting Tinubu reforms. Now he just need to end Dangote and Import Subsitution gangs. Remove the Import Ban List. And Nigeria will be fine again - of course with 12B - invest in Nigeria army and police to ensure security is top notch Obaaderemi2: |

Mkenya2019:Afraid of what past? Go ahead and bring whatever you find. But your own defense of everything Uhuru did including blatant borrowing is well known to everyone here. You only oppose him now because Ruto your tribesman is in charge. |

Mkenya2019:No, Uhuru's second term was the best. 2nd term was a rigged election, no doubt about that. Nothing like rewarded for any success. Debt growth rate ballooned from 2013_ shrunk in 2018_. You can check the rates in image 1. In 2nd term, goons like Sonko who were intellectually devoid were replaced with the development doyen, the NMS. I was wowed by massive transformation uhuru's 2nd term _ stalled projects went up. Massive infrastructure soared. SGR had been initialized by kibaki's regime; so it's more of a kibaki thing; Notwithstanding their regime financing; too much money was misappropriated. I'm more fascinated by infrastructure and economic development. External debt in First term was Uhuru's most enduring economic legacy, channeled to nothing! Second term, we saw something. I like Ruto's ideals in restoring their mess. I hope he will re-track our economy to order. He just needs to fire some of his incompetent Cs and CAs and stay truthful to his ideas.

You're funny as fck. How can Ruto rig - state backed candidate? Uhuru was epic failure - he lost in every polling station in his Mt kenya backyard including his own polling station. Kenyans are very wise and made the great decision because they had seen the mess. When talking about debt - put the entire debt - dont cherry pick external debt. Let me repeat. again. Uhuru 1st term - was great success and that success was due to Ruto. They managed to improve from 50% of 2013 - to 55% in 2017 You know why - two things - rural paved of roads - that doubled from 11,000 to 20,000! In my county - we had like 100kms paved - by that first time it was almost 400kms. 2nd success was electricity - Jubilee found Kibaki had done I think 1.5m or something - they moved it 5-6M in 5yrs. Suddenly every village had electricity. Both - low seal volume rural roads and electricity densification were Ruto brainchild. Those two were main vote winners - nobody gives a damn about SGR - maybe the people along the SGR route were happy during it's construction. After construction they felt nothing. 2nd term was pure disaster - because outside of the momentum from electricity and low seal volume roads - Uhuru failed in Big 4. That failure came to bite him on election time - especially how he mishandled Maize - staple food in kenya. That maize and food inflation killed him - in election booth - Not RIGGING ![]() Now youll see Ruto has restarted intervention in especially maize subsectors and indication are we heading for bumper harvest and surplus. Ruto remember had as minister of agri in 2008 inherited similar mess - and in 2yrs - we were having huge surplus of maize. Many people by 2010 - were looking for a place to dump excesss maize. I see Azimio nutcase shouting that Ruto will fail and laugh ![]() They clearly dont know the man. So far Ruto has done incredibly well - and he will win 2027 by huge landslide. Kenya is definitely on the right trajectory. The rule of law is back. No more extrajudicial killing. Ruto is going to suprise many by his anti-corruption action as youve seen with KEMSA and sugar thing. Kenya has serious debt problem but if Ruto negotiate next year - then we are good to!!
