The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has warned the Labor Party, LP, and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to stop blaming the commission for its failure to effectively prosecute the case at the PEPT Presidential Election Petition Tribunal. INEC lawyer Kemi Pinheiro (SAN) gave this warning in response to a claim by lawyer Livy Uzoukwu (SAN) to LP and Obi on Wednesday. On Wednesday, Uzoukwu blamed INEC for the middle of the trial after another member of the petitioners' legal team, Audu Anuga (SAN), who presented the documents, suddenly announced that they had exhausted what they had for the day. The lawyer claimed that the office of the INEC chairman refused to honor the summons sent to Professor Mahmood Yakubu to produce some documents. Uzoukwu, who is the head of the legal team of the petitioners, got up and told the court that his team would have liked to proceed, but the INEC chairman's office refused to accept the call for documents, which was a further development. This hindered the progress of their case. However, Pinheiro, the INEC lawyer, pointed out that the petitioners used to look for the culprit whenever they got stuck and could not pursue their case. He said, "It has become a habit. If they want to delay, they are looking for someone to whip. It cannot be true that the INEC chairman's office is rejecting the challenge. "Don't use INEC as a whipping boy. If they have nothing else to do today, just say it. This is their day. Inec is no longer the referee. INEC is now a political party merged with APC. INEC and her lawyers are no longer ashamed of acting as such. INEC ARE REQUIRED TO GIVE THE PLAINTIFF ALL EVIDENCE, INCLUDING EVIDENCE THAT MAY BE FAVORABLE TO THE PLAINTIFF IN THE COURSE OF THE ELECTION CHALLENGE. |

LadyExcellency:INEC is a defendant. As a party to the suit, INEC is to defend the result that they announced. They're to justify why the result that was announced was announced. LadyExcellency:It is the duty of all defendants to do that. The rule isn't limited to INEC or the Election Petition. The rule is binding on everyone who defends a criminal or civil matter in court. The fact in issue is not INEC's refusal to disclose evidence that the petitioner has requested.
