In this government, I don't think Ministers will be as powerful as special advisers. The ministerial role is just to settle Political allies and fulfil the constitutional expectation from FG to states.

Much of the policies will be laid and fronted by the President having gone through the Special advisers. Special advisers are the engine room of this administration. Ministers are to carry out directives. #IMO

NSA is not same as Special adviser on security.

@Praxis758, in effect, he is the new National Security Adviser. Never mind the title, Special Adviser on security. We've never had two advisers on security.

What I think is new is that this is the first time a non- military is being appointed as the NSA. In the past, it was usually from the ranks of retired military generals.

You are right. From the article I read earlier today it stated that ribadu appointment as a special adviser on security it's same as NSA but the fact that he is a retired police officer will actually hurt the feelings of the security chiefs.




But the new development, according to presidential sources who spoke to THE WHISTLER on Thursday, indicates that Tinubu may have scrapped the office of the National Security Adviser and replaced it with that of Special Adviser on Security. The security adviser’s functions would, however, remain the same as the NSA’s.

The presidential source revealed that President Tinubu may have opted to name Ribadu as special security adviser, instead of NSA, to avoid hurting the nation’s military chiefs who may not consider a retired police officer as a competent superior.
