People are products, it is the reason people are now called Human Resources. Government will fine organization who trade on peoples' data yet the money will not to the people whose data are traded but the owner of the people now known as Gov.

When I sign up forms online and I am asked for First Name , I type - Yubi. Surname - Phul. Full name becomes Yubi Phul. Pronounced - You be Fool.

This is a myopic move all in the name of revenue.
No organization is 100% protected against data breach, not even the government itself.

Affected organization will now choose to deny and hide any attack from the public to avoid paying fines.
The right thing to do is to provide framework for data security and fine any organization which refuses
to follow the rules as obtained in other countries.
Also, they should let affected individuals sue the companies instead of the government cornering the
compensation meant for the victims as usual.
Mention the countries that does according to your suggestion and maybe with the source. And also, prove to us that Nigeria does not have a framework for the companies.

The government is not entirely responsible for telling the citizens how and when to take legal actions against data breach. Most of the citizens are even lazy to read about the laws that are protecting them.

In the western countries, the government fine companies, yet it doesn't stop the individuals from filling a case against the same companies.

If you as a citizen see a breach in your data, you can still file a case irrespective of whether the government has fined them or not.

Between The BATified and the OBIdients
Never in recent history have we had this level of interest in the actions of the president. Every word spoken, visitor received and appointment made have been scrutinised and nitpicked by both sides. On one hand we have the BATified, these people treat every action of Mr. President as that of a political genius, the kind of genius that comes around once in a generation and they are not afraid to let us know it. They keep us updated about everything including the Nigerian Stock Exchange (since when?). On the other hand we have the OBIdients, these people are the fault finders, they see these last weeks as initial gra gra and they are patiently waiting for any mistake that they can pounce on. They are also waiting for their principal to come and take his rightful seat.
The actions of the BATified comes from the fact the election was marred with controversies so they have a lack of legitimacy to deal with while our OBIdient brothers still don't believe that Peter Obi did not win.
The past few weeks have been dramatic and I am personally waiting to see what the next few years will be like.
We should have elections like this more often😉.

*Note: I did not talk about the ATIKUlated because they have faded into the background.

If and when a breach occurs because those levels are not met, companies are subject to significant fines, fees, penalties, and punitive consequences in the US

I will reiterate my points again.
Companies are fined for FAILURE to comply with data protection regulations especially not reporting it within stipulated time.
No sensible government fines a company just for being breached alone.
But this dumb bill is indirectly criminalising reporting!

If you are genuinely curious and not some programmed bot defender.
You can start your learning process by googling GDPR, HIPAA and FCT Act.
