During the ongoing presidential election dispute, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, who is testifying as a witness for President Bola Tinubu, has made a significant admission. He acknowledged that the $460,000 that President Tinubu forfeited to the United States originated from a narcotics business and was involved in money laundering activities.

In his evidence-in-Chief, Senator Bamidele insisted that the $460, 000 forfeiture order against the President by an American Court was in respect of a civil matter that cannot take the place of criminal charges.

During cross-examination by Mr Obi's lawyers, the most significant moment of Mr Bamidele's testimony arose when he openly admitted that Mr Tinubu had indeed forfeited a sum exceeding $460,000 in proceeds from illicit drug activities. This legal matter took place in the United States during the 1990s, when Mr Tinubu resided in Chicago. Despite this forfeiture capturing widespread attention in the media leading up to the presidential election on February 25, the politician had chosen not to address the issue for several years.

Livy Uzoukwu, a seasoned attorney representing Mr Obi, inquired whether Mr Bamidele was aware of the connection between the forfeiture and drug trafficking, to which he unequivocally responded in the affirmative.
