Damn! News has it that the election tribunal might likely order a rerun? This is a silly move. Do they know how much it takes to conduct another election? They should declare obi president of Nigeria ASAP. A rerun isn't necessary else APC will still rig it over and over again |

I knew something was still on but couldn't tell it. That 28% drop doesn't correlate with the level of inflation of petrol import we heard about before subsidy removal. As long as prices are lower here, smuggling will abound. As it stands now, marketers will want to increase prices to be at par with Benin, Cameroun and Niger. |

The government of the day, the battery of useless security agencies @ those borders including the customs, Navy, Army are all involved in this economic plifering and sabotage. Meanwhile, until the real culprits(most likely top politicians military brass) are isolated and punished severely, there ain't gonna any respite in sight. |

After removing subsidy, they are still smuggling fuel to neighbouring countries eh? ![]() These fools in government haven't the slightest knowledge how the system operates in those countries and the wider implication for us. Those guys in the neighbouring countries actually depend on Nigerians for fuel supplies. By their own standard, the cost of fuel is above #900 per litre over there. This is why smuggling is lucrative in those areas @ less than #800 per litre for Nigerian smugglers. Until the boarder areas are properly manned, smuggling is not coming to an end anytime soon. |

If a crime continues to go on where the security operatives are supposed to stop it, check well, they have a hand in it. Adewale Adeniyi is only deceiving himself. If customs officers want to stop smugglers today, they know what to do. Smuggling persists because they have a share in its proceeds. |

Our security forces, especially the army, are complicit in this crime. Without their collusion, this wouldn't be possible. Whatever it is, we're thankful the government isn't paying for the smuggled products anymore. I honestly don't know what it'd take to ensure or border patrol men stop taking bribes allowing these crooks have a field day. |

CodeTemplar:I don't think increasing price here will in any way stop the smuggling... If our price increases to, say 1k per litre, people will just smuggle and sell at #2,000 per litre So, rather than we increasing price and believing it'll stop smuggling, let customs put in more efforts to ensure the borders are smuggling free... We shouldn't pay for their incompetence |

The punishment system in court on financial crime is like a slap on the wrist. Ofcourse, people is encouraged to steal by such punishment, especially government officials who run to court since they know stealing 400million will only amount to a fine of #500,358.72k without trying to recover the said 400m. Such a low risk. |

This is the failure of the government. Well, Nigeria government is known to shift blames to the citizens. They can sacrifice by reducing the cost of governance. Wasteful spending and the likes. |
