What's the business of customs in this? Allow people to freely do their business. Nobody is subsidizing the product anymore, so allow them trade anywhere they think they can make more money. It's now purely competitive. There's no scarcity of product in Nigeria, na money people no get to buy fuel. What we should focus on now is preventing our crude oil from being smuggled out of the country in large vessels. |

So far the price remains fixed at 511 then they are just smuggling for nothing |

I doubt if this should border the government. You have deregulated and taken off subsidy. Allow people to sell their goods wherever they want naa. How does it affect us? I'm open to learn |

siofragspot:If you have ever lived around any border town, you will never trust those uniform men While i was at Yewa, i knew many security officers that are into Smuggling, some even use tbeir family house to store some of their wares Let the government be playing and not uprooting the bad eggs, smuggling goes nowhere with this same set of officers Not even now that the country is hard, they simply request more money or confiscate your wares and sell it off to their pals, all na win-win for them |

Cloudflare:A rerun will finally confirm our ugliness as Nigerians. APC will ever rig, and the opposition will pull every stop to make sure they do not get shortchanged again. Now, figure where that leads to. Declare the real winner, so Nigeria can move on. |

Even if fuel sells for N1,000 per litre smuggling will still continue. Stop punishing Nigerians just because of few thieves, in this country we romance problems without tackling it headlong. Subsidy itself is not bad, other nations still do it. Our problem is that we are afraid to arrest the thieves just because they are powerful people. If there are scammers in the subsidy process, why not arrest and prosecute them instead of punishing the citizens. Also why are our refineries not working? |

Until president Tinubu takes a decisive step against corruption and starts jailing people or executing them forget his government. At first I was very enthusiastic but what I am seeing is that this corruption cabal will never let Nigeria thrive. |

What Nigerians fail to realize is that just 20percent of the population of our neigboring population depends on PMS. Ghana has indigenous electric cars production companies. Electric taxis everywhere in Kumasi and Accra. Kutonu push Petrol vehicles to us cos our fuel is cheap. Our government is clueless cos they fail to realize that the future is renewable energy. |

Disclaimer: I only skimmed through, so most of what I understand from this is from the headline, which in my experience can be misleading. However, I believe Nigeria custom should just impose an export duty on the fuel and let it be a source of revenue for the country rather than try to stop, since we no longer have subsidy for fuel. That way Nigeria and marketers make money also. These our neighbors must have really run us dry all these years then, if at this present rates many Nigerians are complaining, how come the fuel is still attractive to our so called poorer neighbors? |

zinaunreal:Naira is weak at the moment,so that 511 is like 450cfa. So you see there's still a lot of difference with their home prices ,hence the smuggling. Everything isn't black and white. Just that some big players who've already made money from the activity might decide to quit since to them, the margins no longer equals the risk. |

I don't understand the article. Since there's no more subsidy, any export of petrol, whether legally or illegally is now a gain to the country. It is the illegal smuggling of stolen crude oil that's the crime here |
| Re: Fuel Smuggling Persists In Borders Despite Subsidy Removal – Customs Boss by Healthquest: 9:39am On Jul 11, 2023 |
Iykopee:They should allow fuel exportation to that country either legal or not so far isn't stolen PMS. There's no subsidies fuel so they should have fuel pls |

So how much is fuel selling in neighbouring countries? If our fuel price is at least 90% of fuel in our neighbours', then it means that fuel being smuggled was stolen from Nigeria. |
| Re: Fuel Smuggling Persists In Borders Despite Subsidy Removal – Customs Boss by slowice(m): 10:03am On Jul 11, 2023 |
But since there's no subsidy isn't that more sales for fuel importer? I mean if we had working refineries shouldn't owners be glad to be making more sales? Selling to Chad, Niger, Cameroun, Benin and co? Don't see any wrong except they are moving it across borders illegally. |
