Its doesnt matter if he was on the bench, match fitness is a gradual process that take lots of time to attain for most players. Its another phase of recovering from injury.

Hazard was only on the bench but was not fit to play.

top clubs can only play 11 players on the field and probably play 18 to 20 players a season. Few top clubs not many spaces, so a good player may never join a club (like Madrid) destined to win the UCL. e.g Aguero

If you are good enough, you will get into the first 11 of a top club. and get the chance at the CL
