A fire incident occurred at Tin Can Island port in Lagos, specifically at Ports and Cargo Terminal berths 7 and 8 on Thursday, July 20, Newspremises reports.

The fire originated from a crane that was unloading containers from the vessel MV. ALGECIRAS EXPRESS. Unfortunately, the fire quickly spread and affected not only the crane but also the vessel and other nearby containers.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started due to a mechanical fault in the Liebherr crane and subsequently engulfed the MV Hapag - Lloyd vessel as well.

Firefighters worked diligently for about four hours to bring the blaze under control, preventing further damage.

As of now, the management of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has not released an official statement regarding the incident.

However, reliable sources have confirmed that there were no casualties, and thankfully, no lives were lost during the fire outbreak.

The situation, though concerning, was handled effectively by the firefighting team.
