Most Nigerians won't be ready to make the kind of sacrifice that these people make to get their country to where it is. For instance, can you pay up to 25 - 30% of your income in taxes to see your country work? That's practically impossible. In the UK, some people pay up to 45% income tax. Whopping 45%!!

Like I always tell people, love for country na cheap talk. If you want to see patriotic people, check how they treat public offices. Politicians are upgraded civil servants. Nigerians don't like Nigeria - we are a country of hypocrites and opportunists who use religion to cover up their evils.

To show that we are street smart, we bypassed our meters and connected appliances that heavily consume power directly.

Then, we connect our bulbs and other NONSENSE that don't consume power to the meter. Afterwards, we recharge 1k every 5 months.

When you do that, do you steal from the government too? Today, Discos are broke and owe banks billions of naira. Is that the fault of a politician too? We are not ready in this part of the world.

@SmartPolician, I always like your contributions except your comments on this thread. The simple analogy of what you are trying to say is that family members should increase their contribution while the father continues to steal it. You are exonerating the father and blaming the entire family. If the pocket is leaking no amount can fill it. You wanted to sound smart but you are actually doing the opposite.

If you donate 100% on your income to the government, politicians will steal it and send it to their jobless children living large abroad.

I don't think any sane nigerian will have any problem paying taxes if he knows that the taxes he is paying will be put in good use by politicians in govt. Just look at how retired nigerian civil servants are treated after they have contributed to the national pension scheme during their active years.
