Hello everyone, someone here requested to know the benefits of going for a 2-year program as against a 1-year program in Canada.

ADVANTAGES OF A 2-YEAR DIPLOMA PROGRAM AS AGAINST A 1-YEAR PROGRAM IN CANADA.

In Canada, both 2-year diploma programs and 1-year diploma programs have their advantages depending on individual circumstances and career goals. Here are some potential advantages of a 2-year diploma program compared to a 1-year program:

1. Comprehensive knowledge and skills:

A 2-year program generally allows for more in-depth learning and a broader range of courses compared to a 1-year program. It provides students with a comprehensive understanding of their field, covering both theoretical concepts and practical applications.

2. Specialization opportunities:

With the additional time available in a 2-year program, students may have the chance to specialize in a specific area within their field of study. This specialization can make them more competitive in the job market and better equipped for specialized roles within their chosen industry.

3. Co-op or internship opportunities:

Some 2-year diploma programs in Canada may include co-operative education or internship components. These programs provide students with practical work experience in their field, allowing them to apply their knowledge and skills in real-world settings. Co-op or internship experiences can enhance employment prospects and build valuable industry connections.

4. Deeper networking opportunities:

A longer program duration allows for more time to establish relationships with classmates, professors, and industry professionals. Building a strong professional network can be beneficial for future job prospects, internships, mentorship opportunities, and access to a wider range of resources and support.

5. Enhanced career readiness:

The extended duration of a 2-year program often allows for more comprehensive career preparation. Students may have access to additional career development resources, such as workshops, job fairs, and counseling services. They can take the time to refine their resumes, develop interview skills, and gain a better understanding of the job market in their field.

6. 3 years Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP):

Upon your graduation from a 2-year program in a Canada DLI, you'd be eligible for years PGWP. This is not the case with a 1-year program where you'd be eligible for just 1 year of PGWP.

It's important to note that the advantages listed above are general considerations, and the specific benefits of a 2-year diploma program may vary depending on the institution, program structure, and individual circumstances.

Before you make any decision, I advise you to thoroughly research and evaluate the program offerings, curriculum, and potential career outcomes to determine which option aligns best with your goals.

In summary, going for a 1-year program has its advantages too. For example, a 1-year course can help you settle in faster if you are highly skilled and can get a job.

Also, 1-year programs are cheaper and a better option for people on a budget.

The good news is that there are several ways to settle in Canada. The most important thing is getting into the country first.
You can go for a 1-year program, work while studying and save up for a second program to qualify for a 3-year PGWP.
You can also use other immigration pathways to apply for PR with your 1-year certificate.

HOW MUCH DO YOU NEED TO STUDY IN CANADA IN 2023?

One question I have been asked severally is how much I need to relocate to Canada on a study visa.

I also noticed that 2 categories of people ask this question often.

The first set comprises those who genuinely want to weigh their opinions.

They truly want to know if they can chest it or not.

The second category is those who are just playing.

I mean those "wey just dey play"

And even as you're reading this right now, you belong to one of the 2 categories above.

A lady came to my DM a few days ago with the same question.

When I asked her what his budget was, she replied "I have 500k".

Well, I couldn't help but just smile.

You may want to japa badly but if you cannot afford it, there's nothing you can do.

Many other Nigerians will also want to if they can afford it.

Why am I saying all this?

Just so you can prepare your mind for the task ahead.

Every step of the japa journey requires money. From applying for admission to getting your visa.

However, every money and time spent is truly worth it.

Let us take a look at the 5 compulsory things you'll do with money.

Also, an estimate of how much you need to get your student visa in Canada.

1. Admission application fee

Application fees for postgraduate programs (PGD, PGC, Masters programs) in Canada range between 50 - 150 CAD per program.

So if you're applying for more than 1 program, you will pay application fees for each course

There are also a few colleges and universities that offer free application fees.

2. Tuition fees:

Tuition fees for postgraduate programs in Canada range between 14,000 - 30,000+ CAD per year.

This depends on the type of program or course you want to study

3. Visa application fee:

The application fee for a study permit in Canada is 235 CAD.

4. Medical exam fees:

Every Canada visa application must come with a medical examination.

There are two ways you can do your medicals; upfront and on demand.

Upfront medicals are when you apply to do your medicals before the visa office (IRCC) asks you to do so.

Secondly, you can wait for them to schedule you for medicals before doing so. Either way is fine and acceptable.

There are two medical providers in Nigeria currently; the IOM and Qlife.

Note that you will need to book an appointment before proceeding with medicals.

Medical costs about CAD 170 for an adult which is around N60,000.

5. Biometric fee:

Costs 85 CAD per person or 170 CAD for a family if you're applying together

Two other items you need to budget for are proof of funds and flight ticket fees.

While you need to show proof of funds to apply for a visa, you may only buy a ticket when your visa has been granted.

In conclusion, you'll need between N4m - N5m to successfully relocate to Canada on a study visa.

The total amount you will need is dependent on so many factors;

Such as whether you're applying alone or with a family

The school, program of study, and province you intend to land.

And many other factors.

Just take your time to make your research, ask questions, and be ready to go through the steps.

I wish you success in your japa journey

Do you have any questions? Feel free to ask

Kindly share if you found this helpful

Thank you so much for this.God bless you!
Is it possible to relocate with my wife through study route? No kids yet.
And how much will it cost and what's the assurance of getting a job as a student?

Thank you!

Canada requests a minimum of 4 months' statement. Therefore, it would be wise to have the funds in the account prior to printing your statement. If possible, print after the day the money entered

It is possible. In fact, it favours married people more. The person going to school can work up to 20 hrs weekly while the dependent can work full time

DLIs - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW AS REGARDS ADMISSION AND STUDY VISA IN CANADA.

Designated Learning Institutions are educational institutions in Canada that have been approved by provincial or territorial governments to host international students.

When applying for a study permit (student visa) to study in Canada, one of the requirements is to have a letter of acceptance from a Designated Learning Institution. This letter serves as proof that you have been accepted to study at a recognized institution in Canada.

Here are some key points to know about DLI and admission in Canada:

Finding a DLI: To apply for a study permit, you must first find a Designated Learning Institution that offers the program you want to study. The Government of Canada provides a search tool on its official website to help you find DLIs across the country.

Applying for Admission: Once you have identified a DLI and the program you wish to study, you need to apply directly to the institution for admission. Each DLI has its application process and requirements, so be sure to check their website or contact them for specific details.

Letter of Acceptance: After you have successfully applied and met all the necessary admission requirements, the DLI will issue you a letter of acceptance if you are accepted into the program.

Study Permit Application: With the letter of acceptance in hand, you can proceed to apply for a study permit from the Government of Canada. The study permit is the official document that allows you to study in Canada.

Eligibility for Work: As an international student studying at a DLI, you may be eligible to work on or off campus while studying in Canada. The study permit will outline the specific work conditions and eligibility criteria.

Compliance and Renewals: As a student, you must comply with the conditions of your study permit and continue to meet the requirements of your DLI. If your study program requires an extension, you will need to apply for a study permit extension before it expires.

It's essential to keep in mind that regulations and procedures might change over time, so it's crucial to check the official website of the Government of Canada for the most up-to-date and accurate information regarding study permits and Designated Learning Institutions.

*RELOCATING TO CANADA*

One of my friends who relocated to Canada recently shared some lessons with me about his relocation and I thought I should share them.

Enjoy it

---

1. *Using Immigration Lawyers and Travel Agents Are Not Necessary:*

When I made a decision to relocate, I came across several immigration experts charging as much as $15,000 to help you through the process.

I didn't use them mainly because I didn't have the money.

So, I had to do it myself and it worked

Later on, I found out that many people who paid those experts ended up wasting their money.

With a little guidance, you too can apply yourself and save a lot

---

2. *Open a Separate Bank Account for This Project:*

I like taking the things I want to achieve as projects and relocating to a new country isn’t a small project.

One of the things I did when I made up my mind to relocate was to open a separate bank account with no ATM card.

I didn't have any rich uncle to help me.

So, I cut down on a lot of things and I started putting funds into the account for the project.

If you are like me, do this too.

It will help

---

3. *Prepare for IELTS*

Many people spend at least 24 months before they finally relocate because they have to write the IELTS exam twice

And that is because they didn't prepare for it the first time.

They think "it is just English"

If you want to relocate to Canada asap, you will need to get a good enough score

---

4. *Prepare for at least 6 months ahead:*

When you finally get to Canada, you will need some time to get used to the system, get a job, a house etc and settle down.

Depending on you, this could be within 3 - 6 months.

Just make sure you prepare for it.

---

5. *Acquire extra skills like plumbing, fixing electrical issues, how to change car oil and how to generally fix things around the house.*

Even though these services are cheap in Nigeria, you will be paying a lot of money to get them in Canada. By learning how to do them, you will be saving a lot of money.

Or even use it to get some change.

I hope you have gained something from this my short write-up

---

PS: There is a new immigration program recently introduced by the Canadian government.

This is the ONLY Canada relocation program that allows you to become a permanent Canadian resident even if you do not have a degree.

If you have any questions about relocation to Canada, feel free to DM me.

5 THINGS TO NOTE ABOUT STUDYING IN CANADA WITH YOUR HND

If you have a Higher National Diploma (HND) from Nigeria and you are applying to study in a Canadian College or University, please note the following.
1. HND is not equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Canada. Rather, it is equivalent to a 3-year undergraduate diploma/advanced diploma. This means that Canada does not accept HND into a Master's degree program. This can change later but as at today, it is not possible.

2. There is nothing like a pre-masters or top-up degree in Canada as applicable in the UK.

3. When evaluating your credentials with WES, IQAS, etc. for either admission or immigration especially, I will advise you to evaluate both your National Diploma, and Higher National Diploma.

4. The fourth thing to note is that your HND is valuable in Canada as much as the BSc, and can be used to gain admission into a Canadian College or University.

5. You can be admitted into a Postgraduate diploma or postgraduate certificate program in Canada.

So you have any question or anything you want me to talk about concerning relocating to Canada through the study route? feel free to ask me.

Many international students are currently stranded in Canada.

According to the Canadian government, these are students who hope to get a job after their school.

Unfortunately, their programs are not eligible for postgraduate work permits.

Most agents do not educate students about the programs they are going to do in Canada.

Should we blame the desperate agents who want to make money at all costs?

No, I will blame you more if you fall into this kind of mess.

Not in this modern day of the internet.

Even if you want to use an agent for your admission and visa, you should have an idea of what he/she is doing.

I know that you want to choose a program with low tuition fees.

You want to live in a cheap province like Newfoundland & Labrador, New Brunswick, etc.

While these are good, there are more important things you should consider.

✅ Is the school a recognized DLI?

✅ Is the program eligible for a Postgraduate Work Permit?

A DLI is a Canadian institution that may admit international students.

If your school is not authorized, OYO is your case.

PGWP means that you can get a work permit to work in Canada after your studies.

When I started applying to study in Canada, I didn’t know anything about this.

The first college I contacted was a DLI but the program is not eligible for a PGWP.

Omo na so I take off o

You don't need to crack your head so much.

You can push the responsibility of getting a good school and program to us.
