Japa Surge: Only Over 9000 Doctors Left In Nigeria - NARD by bolabizzle(op):
Here are 8 points from the news article.

- The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has gone on an indefinite strike over unmet demands for improved working conditions.

- NARD president Emeka Orji said that only a few over 9,000 medical doctors are left with the association due to the surging migration pressure on Nigeria’s healthcare system.

- Orji said that the doctors remaining in Nigeria are overworked and poorly cared for, and that they have been engaging the government since January without avail.

- Nigeria has a severe shortage of doctors, with only one doctor for every 10,000 patients, far below the World Health Organization’s recommended ratio of one doctor to 600 people.

- This affects the health of Nigerians, who may not be able to access timely and quality care, and who have low life expectancy and high maternal and child mortality rates.

- Nigeria is losing its doctors to developed countries that offer better remuneration, up-skilling opportunities, and improved standards of living. Analysts say this is a situation of the poor subsidising the rich.

- The government has taken some steps to address the shortage of doctors, such as increasing the number of medical schools and offering scholarships to students who want to study medicine. However, these measures have not been enough to solve the problem.

- NARD has six items on its list of demands, including payment of salary arrears, hazard allowance, and medical residency training fund; implementation of full CONMESS; domestication of MRTA; review of hazard allowance by all state governments; and reversal of the downgrading of the membership certificate by the MDCN.

Wow! cheesy

This is good news. I hope and pray that more hardworking professionals in all job sectors will eventually japa, leaving the country and its citizens to deal with fakes, quacks and fraudsters. Its what they deserve.

Let the citizens continue to stand, look and do absolutely nothing as the country continues to rot beyond recognition.

Rather than being concerned about how unbearable the country will be for their children and generations to come, nigerians should be more concerned about who gets evicted on sunday in the big brother house.

Agbo is cheap and a cost saving option in this shege promax regime.
Exactly. Who needs a doctor anyway? If you develop a serious medical condition that needs quick medical attention, don't go to the hospital. Just look for a cost saving option like iya ramota's roadside agbo.

This means IF the population is 200 million people, a doctor attends to 22,222 patients.

Take safety precautions as required, use condom if you must knack and watch what you feed your body because as it is, we are on our own.

Is he referring to Resident Doctors or the total number of doctors irrespective of their position/affiliation. Wondering because I have consultants, many medical officers, and not a single doctor in residence who left in search of greener pastures.

Thread from 2023 - anybody know if the numbers have improved at all since then? Because if it was already 1 doctor to 22,000+ patients back then, and the japa wave has only accelerated since... I genuinely don't know how the system is holding together.

Any doctors or healthcare workers here who can speak to what's actually happening on the ground in 2026? Like, are hospitals managing somehow or is it as bad as the math suggests?
