Forgetting My Mother's Tongue by Purvan(op):
I was born in Nanka and my native language is igbo. My parents move to Denmark when I was 4, and since then I have forgotten quite a bit of igbo. When it comes to reading/listening, it’s fine. But when it comes to talking/writing, it’s getting pretty bad. I have a danish accent, that’s assimilation for you.
So what should I do? Should I try to practice igbo or just let things be? It’s sad because if you don’t use a language , then you lose it. Does anyone else have a similar experience in forgetting their native language?

Why learn a language if there is no one to communicate with in that language?

When the niger delta ex-militants was fighting the nigeria soldiers back then'' anytime they cage the nigerian soldiers they will speak their language to the group and those from ijaw will separate from the group'' that is how many soldiers become run away soldiers while some went back.
All what i am saying is don't underrate ur language, it might help u one day.

Thanks for sharing

Like illicit recommends, you can watch Igbo movies

Also, get some of your extended family members involved by asking them to speak with you in Igbo

With your desire, I think you'll get better with time
