Igbo Demands Cabinet Slot In Niger State, Cites Revenue Generation by trutharena(op): 12:19pm On Aug 04, 2023
The Igbo community in Niger State has called on Governor Mohammed Bago to appoint one of their own into his cabinet to reciprocate their contribution to the state’s Internally Generated Revenue.

They also alluded to their support for the governor and averred that it would be in line with his promised ‘all-inclusive’ government.

The Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Niger State chapter, Chief Valentine Oparaocha, who spoke to our correspondent on Thursday in Minna, insisted that Bago’s cabinet would not be complete without at least one Igbo man on board.

Oparaocha said, “There is no part of the state you don’t find an Igbo man or woman. Go to any market, you will see them doing their best and contributing to the state’s economy, that is why we feel that it will not be out of place to ask to be included in the cabinet.

“Igbo people are naturally business inclined and contribute more than other tribes to the growth and development of Niger State, especially in the Internally Generated Revenue, and we have remained committed to doing that.

We voted for Bago because our son, George Dike, assured us of his sincerity to carry the Igbo people along. We voted for him even when we were sidelined in the largesse that was shared with the other 26 non-indigenous tribes in the state.”

Oparaocha added that Igbo youths in Niger State had always supported Bago

“They told us to vote for him because he will not disappoint us and we did. We want the governor to treat us like some states by bringing us into the security and state executive council,” he added.

Niger state about to be a “No man’s land”.

Soon they will be scheming to be governor of Niger state and calling the indigenes bigots and tribalist when they push back.

My prayers are with the Niger people.

Ahmadu Bello saw these people coming a mile away.

As I would always advice, never give privileges to the Igbos that they would themselves not give their fellow Igbos.

How many Abia Igbos have been appointed commissioner by an Anambra Governor?

How many Enugu Igbos have been appointed commissioner by an Imo Governor?

Every one should learn to be fiercely territorial like the Igbos do on their internal relations and their external relations.

SayNo2SmallPrik:
Why Hausa or Yoruba no Dey claim all this rubbish. Why always Igbo ?
Ahmadu Bello better describes it.

Re: Igbo Demands Cabinet Slot In Niger State, Cites Revenue Generation by Whalis:
It is a good development but I hope it won't end up the way the one in my community ended up.
We had an Igbo person staying among us before the war. My community had a custom where a stranger no matter his age is given a share just after the titleholders. This is to recognise his community in our midst and not necessarily the individual. We treated every stranger among us then as ambassador of their various homeland. The Igbo man stayed in my community for so long that by age he became the second eldest man.
When my community wanted to share farmland he was given where they used to give to him even when we had so many people his seniors, this time around the Igbo man rejected. He said he must be recognised as the second eldest man in the community and by that should be given such share as it was deserving and due of the second eldest man. This demand would put him among the titleholders. It was unheard of and an abomination for a stranger to be given such position. Surprisingly before my community could say Jack Robinson and adjust to this rude shock, the man had gone to court. He claimed that by the constitution of Nigeria that having stayed in my community for more than 10 years that it was enough to make him a bonafide citizen of the community.
To cut the episode short the ruling was in his favour. It was rightly so. Although the magistrate and everyone that presided over the case were Igbos. The Igbos were effectively in charge of the Eastern Government.
This was happening in the present day Rivers State.
My community learnt their lesson via that case and to be frank the man ran from the community when Port Harcourt fell to the Federal troops during the Nigeria Biafran Civil War and never came back even after the war.

Yes, the easterners are very industrious but you can't by-force the governor to do your will sad

these igbo leaders should wake up and stop attracting the avenue for Igbo envy and hate to igbos. There is nothing like one Nigeria and that construct only exists when it's time to share oil. Enough of all this nonsense, when it's time everybody go answer him papa name
